I Know the there is a certain amount of time recommended to put in for each test (FAR says 135 which seems low to me). How many hours a week did you put into each exam, FAR AUD BEC and REG in order to pass it?

For me, so far, AUD was about 140 hrs, FAR about 230 hrs.

    AUD 85 (2/22/12)
    FAR 81 (5/10/12)
    BEC 7/13/12
    REG 10/1/12

You will end up getting a wide variety of answers to this question.

Someone might put in 200 for FAR and another put in 50. It is not a good metric to base your own prep on (not saying that is why you are asking, just letting you know 🙂 )

That being said, the following was my general experience:

I put my self on a 5 week time frame for each exam. I would apply for the exam and set the test date for five weeks out and then study 3-4 days a week no more than 3 hours a day (I lose focus BAD at around 3 hours). I would throw in an extra day here and there as well. That was my M.O. for the first two exams. My study habits dropped in intensity with the subsequent exams to where I was barely studying for REG at all every day and just drinking a lot instead. My saving grace is that I am a tax accountant and I saved REG for last because I knew I would be sick of studying by that time.

    BEC – 75 hours (passed 1st attempt)

    FAR – 75 hours (passed 1st attempt)

AUD – 60 hours (failed) 10 hours additional time over two weeks (passed)

    REG – 50 hours (passed 1st attempt)

That was my order too. I would wait for one score to come back, to have some time off, before I started studying for my next exam. The exception was my AUD retake. I took that and REG in the same window.

Took me a year exactly, but I was in no rush (already have a job, company paying for review) and wanted to spend a lot of time with my new wife.

^^ glad I'm not the only one who supplements Becker with liquor. 😉

    AUD 85 (2/22/12)
    FAR 81 (5/10/12)

    @lynseyklly

I think it's a required part of the “Becker Promise” 🙂

Congratulations on that AUD score. AUD was tough for me. I got a 71 and then on my retake squeaked by with a 75!

My other exams were 83, 81, 84. I was mostly consistent but AUD killed me! I hated it!

My best advice is to do enough to where if you do fail a section, it won't be because of lack of prep! You will feel really low after failing, if you do fail one, and adding that feeling of “if I would have only done this or done that” makes a person feel even lower.

Hahah thanks for the reply. I'm definitely going to supplement the CPA review with booze as well. As far as my schedule goes, I'm going to be in a Master's program next year so I won't be on the full time working schedule and I'm just trying to see what I can expect for how many study hours to try and stuff into a week. I honestly just wanna get it all done as quickly as possible and I know i'm in an advantageous position being i'll still be a student.

This is approximately how many hours it took to pass each section…

    FAR- 300 hours

    AUD- 185 hours

    BEC- 170 hours

    REG- 900 hours

Yup, it took a lot of studying for me. I'm not one of those smart people that can just study a little bit and do well. I had to work real hard to earn my passing scores.

    Bec- 50 hours

    Aud- 80 hours overall

Reg- 100+ hours, still no pass

    BEC- 80
    REG- 68, 71, July
    AUD- 61 , 84
    FAR- -- 75 🙂

I went thru each section of Becker including homework at a week per and then spent the last 2 to 3 weeks reading the weaker sections and reworking the problems. I also supplemented the last weekend before each exam with too much liquor and got hooked on a show on each Reg=1st season of lost, Aud=Dexter, BEC=breaking bad, FAR – I didnt slack much the weekend before this one. May sound stupid, but you can really panic yourself and freak out the last few days before test… I decided I knew what I knew and would review for an hour, watch and episode, repeat.

    AUD - 96

    AUD – 100 hours

    FAR (1st attempt) – 100 hours

    BEC – 60 hours

    REG – 75 hours

    FAR (2nd attempt) – 50 more hours

FAR – 312 hrs (definitely overstudied)

    REG – 186 hrs (99% sure I passed)

AUD ~ 80-90 hrs (100% sure I'm going to pass – this is my strongest section)

BEC ~ shooting for 80-90 hours or so, but this again is a stronger section for me so it may be less

I study 2 hrs/day during the week and 6 hrs a day during weekends. Started studying for FAR 12/1/11…been studying on and off since. I have a 45 min commute each way every day on the train, so I can usually knock out an easy hour or so a day on my commute, which leaves about an hour of studying a night before I go to bed.

    FAR - 87 (2/17)
    REG - 89 (4/21)
    AUD - 89 (5/31)
    BEC - 89 (7/11)

    Hi there, FAR buddy 🙂

I expect to put about 200-250 hours. So far, I mostly feel scared and overwhelmed by sheer amount of material. Plus, it's amazing how much Fin. Acc I've already forgotten – I had to look up calculation for DD depreciation. Shame. Last time I took advanced financial was May 2011, not so long ago; I hoped I would remember at least basic things. If you are fresh from school, you probably remember more than I do and can go through the sections faster = less study time.

I log in time I spend on Becker/Wiley/CPAforfree, whether it's listening to a lecture, or doing HW, or reading on my own, or MCQ. Logging in time keeps me accountable. When I log my time, I STUDY. No checking email, FB, making tea tec. No alcohol, either lol
