Re-writing notes, is it worth it?

Now that I have moved my test to Nov. 30 and have extra 2 weeks of practicing more MCH’s and SIMS, I am thinking about re-writing notes. I know Jeff, highly recommends it, but i was wondering if anyone done it lately and think it is worth it and if it made a big difference.

I took notes, and i have 3 legal pads of notes and re-writing it might take me a lot of time..

    Please advice..

    THANK YOU!

With thanksgiving and everything you really don't have “2” weeks…i would focus on MCQs.

My 3rd attempt at AUD was the only time I wrote & rewrote notes. I think it was worth it!

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

I, also, am a firm believer in rewriting notes. It helped me tremendously for FAR (and I hope for AUD too!)

I would rewrite a “summary” of your notes. It shouldn't go longer than 10 pages or so otherwise you're just copying. Force yourself to come up with shorter ways of writing things (in order to do this, you actually have to understand it–as opposed to simply rewriting your lecture notes out). It helped me tremendously during final review as a way to really cement some concepts. At the same time, don't neglect MCQ's. I might rework some sections that either you struggled with or want to practice some more to get more comfortable (not all of them though, that would be inefficient). Focus your studying and really try to understand the summarized notes you are making, and it should help a lot. Best of luck! I'll be taking AUD on 11/29 so let's get this exam finished!

    BEC 86 (08/30/11)
    FAR 84 (10/13/11)
    REG 88 (11/08/11)
    AUD 86 (11/29/11)

    atelery,

I watched the Yaeger videos and took notes on them as I watched, but I never rewrote them. I also took notes as I worked the MCQs in the Wiley book. I believe I retain more by writing notes as I study. I can't speak for everyone, but I can retain information by just reading it over and over again. I have Jeff's Ninja notes and I just read them over and over again when I have time. I don't rewrite them though, but that is just me. Everyone is different.

I think I would be too lazy to re-write it again, and I'm like redrage. when I read a text, and read it again and again and again, I will remember it easily.

I have some friends who can learn without problems when they write it again.

I would suggest, that if you have some time, you should re-write it, because it's good for the remembering process. I hope you're not so lazy than me!

rewriting notes by hand forces me to really think about what i am writing at a very slow pace (at the speed of my handwriting). i can skim through my notes really quickly and not even know what i just read

but i would only do this if i had plenty of time before the exam, it usually takes me about a week to rewrite all my notes

    REG-65,71,74,73,70,74,79
    BEC-60's,60's,69,71,76*,78
    FAR-67,66,65,79
    AUD-54,60's,65,83*,69,80
    *expired

    DONE

Oh my goodness yes, rewriting notes helped me a lot. I took notes on the lectures, then re-wrote them on colored index cards that I could carry around with me. Condensing them onto the cards really drummed the concepts in, plus gave me flashcards for things like IT definitions and formulas. But everyone learns differently — my daughter can't get a thing out of reading a textbook, but once she hears one explanation or sees one demo of a math or science problem, she's got it down cold. She only uses notes for for memorizing stuff like vocab words or elements on the periodic table.

Personally, writing notes in the first place is what pushed me from a 74 to an 88 in audit, but re-writing them seems overkill. I would study your notes and do multiple choice and sims.

    FAR- 75
    REG- 82
BEC- 73, 79!! Its over. Am I dreaming?
    AUD- 74, 74, 88

@See Pee A, I totally agree with you. When I review chapters, I just write a summary on a paper and review them everyday, so I don't forget all info. It seems to help.

Just writing notes is so time consuming, and re-writing it would take the same amount. I am big advisor on taking notes, that's when I started to pass parts. As far as rewriting, I wanted to do it because FAR is my last part and after getting 73 and scared of another below 75, but I will focus on MCH's.

    Good luck to us all!
