I took FAR today after months of studying just to find out that I’m so dumb…probably the dumbest person with the lowest IQ in this forum….lol… I seriously thought and I still think I know 90% of the material very well, but oh my freaking lord.. The questions are ridiculous. I think they’re easy, but the way they ware presented make it a mission impossible 8 to even think this is real..

1st Testlet: I think I flagged like 6 and some others I was not sure about (35 mins)

    2ndTestlet: 2x worse than the 1st (50 mins)

3rd Testlet: Average of 1st and 2nd..easy questions become ugly…(35 mins)

SIMS: not bad, except for a few details

In conclusion, I would be surprised if I get a score above 40..lol…..I should be feeling bad about this, but I think I could not have done anything more to prepare me. I would say that the MCQs from the review program I used were completely useless as well as 95% of the text. At one point I felt like just quitting and running out of the room ot beating up everyone in the building, but I did not cuz I like to suffer I guess and would not like to spend a few days in jail…lol

I still cannot believe I studied so hard to get anything under a 75% on an exam…It has never worked that way with me, but I guess this has taught me to be humble and not to feel the king of the world. Now, I’m literally laughing lol….

It will probably take me 10+ years to pass a single section if I ever do. On my way back home I even thought about doing a MIS instead of an MBA or Macc and just getting out of accounting.

I would really like to be positive as I’ve always been, but there is no way in hell I’m getting even close to a 75 unless God was providing me with divine help.

I feel like I’m 10 yrs older with half of my brain cells depleted. My useful life has been reduced by an accounting change and my brain lease is about to expire I guess.

I really admire everyone here, especially those who have managed to pass-I have no clue how you guys do it. I’m not even checking my score til August when I take my “last” section cuz I would probably jump off the nearest bridge.. lol

I’m sorry for the long post, but I just had to get it out of my system. The show must go on……

@peteymit It took me a minute to understand what you meant.

I wonder if you took all the money spent on test fees, review classes, and time ( imagine if you went to a part-time job instead of studying), and invested it in a commodity index or stock with a nice dividend, would you be better off?

    Why didn't I buy $AAPL when I was younger!

@jkey – Let's be generous and start with $10,000. Money doubles about every 7 years (again, generous) so you would have $20k after 7, $40k after 14, $80k after 21, $160k after 28, $320k after 35. I surely would hope that with a CPA license, one would be able to do better than after 35 years.

I am also an attorney. So the future returns expected from the CPA license are ostensibly marginal. I would like to take up shop in the C-suite someday, and I think having the combination of licenses will help accomplish that.

Having an equally viable income alternative makes it that much harder to find the motivation to study, though.

@CPATerminator… FAR chewed me up and spit me out on Feb 22nd. I've never busted my ass for a test and felt so knowledgable going in but so depressed and stupid walking out. Fingers crossed for both of us… Gotta find some way to stay positive. Quitting is not an option… Unless I spend like $2K in exam fees, then maybe my wallet will force me to quit 🙂

here is my take on this whole situation:

Football players are notoriously pigeon holed as stupid people. But somehow, those dudes, who for the most part really do seem stupid, manage to know what the 10 other guys on their team is going to do. And for the most part, they also need to know what the guys on the other side of the ball are going to do. And moreover, due to the 25 second play clock, they need to get a play from the coach, relay that play to the other players, and look across the field and figure out what the other team is doing. All in the span of 25 seconds or less.

So I figure it this way, a dope like ben rothlisburger can process all that information in the span of 25 seconds, why can't i process the information in a multiple choice question in a minute or so? There are certain things you always need to look for, just learn how to find them. 1/3rd of the questions shouldn't be throwing you for a loop if you are studying properly. And if you are prepared well, only those b.s. questions that don't count (I cant remember the official name of them) will give you trouble. And if you are prepared, it doesnt take long to figure out which questions dont count.

So next time you are studying or in the exam room, and you see a question that is overwhelming, just remember this: if football players can process all that information, so can you.

@Minimority I think that 25 grand is probably a little bit closer. The reference was made about a person who took the exams +17 times and had lost credit on the first one or two because of the 18 month time frame.

Your also assuming that the person will be “that” much more money from it, which isn't always the case.

In all, I do see your point!

I am taking my first exam/session on April 28 for FAR. I haven't really started studying yet because of full time work, family, and part time tax preparation business. But i am keeping my motivation to pass the test and i know i can't pass it if i won't review. Reading all you guys' posts keep motivated. I just admire those who have taken the exam and passed it in one test sitting, that is so admirable knowing that all four exams are tough !! Good luck to all of us who are dreaming to become a CPA one day. We all can do this !!!
