I took FAR today after months of studying just to find out that I’m so dumb…probably the dumbest person with the lowest IQ in this forum….lol… I seriously thought and I still think I know 90% of the material very well, but oh my freaking lord.. The questions are ridiculous. I think they’re easy, but the way they ware presented make it a mission impossible 8 to even think this is real..

1st Testlet: I think I flagged like 6 and some others I was not sure about (35 mins)

    2ndTestlet: 2x worse than the 1st (50 mins)

3rd Testlet: Average of 1st and 2nd..easy questions become ugly…(35 mins)

SIMS: not bad, except for a few details

In conclusion, I would be surprised if I get a score above 40..lol…..I should be feeling bad about this, but I think I could not have done anything more to prepare me. I would say that the MCQs from the review program I used were completely useless as well as 95% of the text. At one point I felt like just quitting and running out of the room ot beating up everyone in the building, but I did not cuz I like to suffer I guess and would not like to spend a few days in jail…lol

I still cannot believe I studied so hard to get anything under a 75% on an exam…It has never worked that way with me, but I guess this has taught me to be humble and not to feel the king of the world. Now, I’m literally laughing lol….

It will probably take me 10+ years to pass a single section if I ever do. On my way back home I even thought about doing a MIS instead of an MBA or Macc and just getting out of accounting.

I would really like to be positive as I’ve always been, but there is no way in hell I’m getting even close to a 75 unless God was providing me with divine help.

I feel like I’m 10 yrs older with half of my brain cells depleted. My useful life has been reduced by an accounting change and my brain lease is about to expire I guess.

I really admire everyone here, especially those who have managed to pass-I have no clue how you guys do it. I’m not even checking my score til August when I take my “last” section cuz I would probably jump off the nearest bridge.. lol

I’m sorry for the long post, but I just had to get it out of my system. The show must go on……

Keep your head up terminator! We've all been there and I'm guessing you did better than a 40. I did run out of the testing room once during REG. I threw up for 10 minutes and then went back in and got a 70. This test is graded so weirdly that who knows, you may end up with a 90! I'm taking it tomorrow and I don't feel even the slightest bit prepared even after 6 weeks of studying.

This is exactly how I felt on 2/6/2012 when I took FAR, my first section ever. I studied Wiley Test Bank, Wiley book, and Yaeger Homestudy. None of that studying and materials felt like it helped me with the real exam. The real exam had different worded questions and was hard to figure out what the question was asking for, just like you described. I'm thinking how unfair this is, if we put in more than enough studying time to pass, but they changed the “language” of the real exam so it adds another level of difficulty. If you check my recent posts out, I am talking about exactly how you feel. It sucks, and I don't know what to do. I couldn't have studied any harder, just like you. I got a 60 and I thought I was going to get a 40.

Anyway, what study materials did you use, and what study materials do you plan on using if you have to retake FAR?

@Kricket. I really admire your perseverance. You've probably been asked this a million times already, but what combination of study materials do you think are best for FAR?

Also, what would you say is the main reason that you have come so close so many times in passing each section of the exam?

@14 Times a Charm….I used CPAExcel and Wiley tb. I did the MCQs at least 5 times and read the chapters like 10x. It was my 1st section too, but IDK. Maybe accounting is not for everyone, including myself. What worries me is the fact that it was easy, but hard at the same time if you know what I mean. I'll see how the others go, but I doubt it gets any better…lol….

@14 I have used several review courses. I've used Gleim, Yaeger, Roger CPA Review, Wiley Books and Wiley Test Bank on various exams (not all at once!). I don't think there is one review course that is perfect for all four exams. You just have to find what works for you.

I have no idea how I keep getting so close without passing. It's gut wrenching I can tell you that. My husband is beginning to think the whole thing is rigged and I should register as a Democrat just to see if I pass :). I doubt that would help. I just have to keep doing this until it's done. The only way to fail is to quit.

I think we are sort of on the same boat….

I took it on Saturday. I was doing the first testlet and I was like is this serious? Is this way too easy or are there so many tricks that I can't see? Next testlet was way harder, then back to easy-ish-medium. Then the task based were relatively medium and a few super tough ones.

I honestly don't know what to expect. I either passed greatly or failed miserably. I'm curious as to why you say you're going to get a 60? Isn't it getting harder supposed to mean you did well?

I tried to keep my cool during the exam, I remembered reading about some guy who freaked out when it got harder and thought he was going to fail that he just went through really fast and answered whatever and ended up not failing by much, so I kept my cool and went on with it, good or bad it's over and now we gotta wait.

@Kricket My dad thinks this exam process is a money racket. Just proves the AICPA is made up of all Democrats!

@terminator I feel your frustration!! That is exactly how I felt when I took BEC on 1/3. Was mad during and after the test. I went to work on Monday and told someone that I know I made at least a 2 on the exam as I had two o the EXACT same questions I had seen in Becker. I stayed mad until 2/3 when I received my grade. Perect score–75!! Convinced they had a 73 point curve on my test! Keep your chin up as there may very well be some divine intervention!

    AUD-64, 78

    BEC-68,66,71,75

    REG-55,64 and 2/29/12

    FAR- Sometime in May.

@candothis…lol..a 73-point curve would definitely help. I was just telling my friend and we came to the conclusion that it's not how many you get right because you know it,but how many you get right because you guess correctly. lol…OMFG. I guess I can retake, but I feel stupid right now.

@CPATerminator You couldn't have said it any better. I truly think that it's about how many you get right because you guessed correctly. I would also include that it's about the lucky draw of questions given to the test taker on exam day.

I took FAR on 1/26/2012 and was absolutely certain I had failed….the mc didn't seem to get any harder- the only difference I noted was the questions with calculations got longer. The sims were from outerspace…I know I got the research tab correct and one other sim for sure but the others were AWFUL…long story short- you never know. I passed with an 80 and I'm done!!!!! If I can do it so can you!

Good luck to all! I'm still glowing and haven't been exposed to radiation!

@cpaterminator.. was that your first exam? from my experience i would say that that is the formula for a PASS. Regardless of how you feel about the first testlet..you must have done well if the second one got harder. (maybe all the ones you flagged and guessed were mostly pretest)…and on all the exams i scored higher in were when i had a hard 2nd testlet and medium 3rd.

The key to me on these exams are the sims..if you feel you did ok on them..then i really dont think you failed. Keep your head up..its over with now so just move on to the next section and deal with the resullts when you get them..thats the mentality.

@dreambigCPA I really want to beleive you… My 2nd testlest was hard, and the 3rd had both easy and hard questions… I completed all SIMS but one (And I know for sure I got the reasearch one right, word for word)… I really really hope you are right!!! lol

It's interesting that it usually the test-takers who remember how many questions they answered wrong, which testlets were tough, and the breakdown of the sims, etc…, are the ones who complain about forgetting stuff or are confused with wording. These are tell-tale traits that the test-taker is not focused, or even worse is lacking conceptual knowledge.

Wording could influence a question or two, not an entire exam.

There's a big differnce between being familiar with the material and mastering it. If you've scored in the percentage range on five separate occasions, it's not the exam. You just don't know the material.

    Just being honest.
