R and D expenditures – what if for internal use?

    I’m confused by what qualifies as “R and D” expense

    1. Is all R and D expensed in the period instead of capitalized, even if you can attribute R and D expenses to a finished product later?

    2. What happens when the R and D is for “internal use only”? Does that not meet the definition of R and D expense, and if not, what line item would it fall under?
