I’m set to take FAR for the third time this Thursday, the 8th, and I had a quick question about the MCQ progress reports and trending score.

The first two times I’ve taken FAR, I’ve scored a “Stronger” on Government accounting the first time and a “Stronger” on NFP accounting the second time I took the exam. That said, my weakest category on the Ninja MCQ’s is Govn’t and not far behind is NFP. My overall trending score right now is not passing, but I have a feeling a good reason for that is because of my current scores on Govn’t and NFP.

I like to think I’m fairly solid in both categories, especially when it will come time for exam day. I guess my question is, are the Ninja MCQ’s for these two categories generally more difficult than what you see on the exam? For me personally, I find that these questions are much more difficult than the actual exam.

As a general follow up regarding the overall trending score, does anyone have real life experiences of having a trending score on here of not passing (say in that 66-70 range) but actually passing the actual exam?

By the way, this is my first post so hello all!

Hi JerseyJay and welcome! On my first go with FAR I got a weaker in Gov't and a comparable in NFP. In reviewing for my second round, I picked up Ninja MCQs (I originally had only the Wiley Test Bank (WTB)) and felt that the MCQ's from the exams were equivalent to what I was seeing on both Ninja and WTB MCQ's. To me, the Ninja Qs gave more detailed explanations and better explained why my answer was right or wrong. This helped me to better understand the concepts which I think is one of the reasons I got a pass on the 2nd try. My trending score for Ninja was 70-75. I had a lot of ups and downs – great days that I felt like an accounting rockstar, and then days when I was a dud. Unfortunately, a lot of this is the luck of the draw. I'll add that it felt like both of my exams were much heavier in Gov't and NFP than the 8-12% of the exam I was expecting and that IFRS questions kicked my butt.

    FAR: 74, 83
    REG: 76
    BEC: 77
    AUD: 89

Thanks for the input LKD, I totally hear where you're coming from on days where you feel like you're knocking it out of the park and other days where you almost feel like you want to start back from square one. A lot of what helped me the prior two exams with Govn't and NFP is reading the Ninja notes over and over again. That information really sunk in the day of the exam.

I think my game plan is going to be do that again with the Ninja notes for all categories, and of course, tons and tons of MCQ's.
