Question for those that have taken FAR…

I’m just curious which topic you found to be the hardest to grasp?

I am having a hard time with a couple of concepts, and I’m wondering if it’s me or if it is really difficult. I am about halfway through my Yaeger lectures, and I’m beginning to think I’m just plain dumb!

While I haven't taken FAR, I am going through Yaeger and finished Module 16 today. I can tell you I am feeling more and more confused the farther I go in the book (Pensions, Deferred Taxes, Share Holders Equity).

It's like I've got the basics down from school, but then you go from exception to exception to exception and it feels like you know nothing. I'd say it really is that difficult, which is why I will really drill down on these concepts after I go through all the videos. Hopefully it all comes together for us at the end.

Thanks for responding. It seems like we are almost at the same point in the lectures. I just got done with 15.a – Shareholder's Equity. From most posts I've seen on Yaeger strategy, people have listened a lecture and then done the MCQ's and SIM's. However, I'm going through and listening to all the lectures first so then when I really start studying and doing the questions, I'll at least know the whole picture of what I'm working with. Is that what you are doing or are you working the problems as you go?

I don't remember ever covering some of these main topic areas in college like Deferred Taxes, Pensions etc. The material is so overwhelming and so detailed, I don't know how in the world I will even remember 1/2 of it

i use becker and I work problems as I go. sometimes I will finish the whole chapter than work the questions but I also saw a major decrease in my hw scores

I started out working the recommended MCQ's after each video but it was taking so long. I then read some sites that talked about how you will forget so much by the end, it is better to wait. So now I take notes with the lectures, but no MCQ. I plan on doing a brief review (read notes, key points in module), then working the recommended MCQ for that module till I hit all modules. Then work all MCQ starting from the start again (or go solely on Wiley/Gliem Testbanks).

I found governmental the most difficult, simply because I'd not seen it in school and it's like trying to apply similar, accounting concepts with different terminology.

I hate Bonds! I took FAR yesterday for the second time, its pretty much mixtures of everything on the test. I did get lot of bond and leases.

Governmental drives me insane. While I understand the framework and why they do things the way they do, I still think its silly and that they should report more like a non-for-profit.

Oddly, I didn't find bonds or stockholders' equity to be all that difficult. What really got me was the foreign currency transactions and some of the derivatives/hedging topics. It's all a distant memory to me at this point–I think my mind has repressed all of it until I have to retake when I find out in September that I failed :-/

Jimbo I definitely failed FAR too. We can complain together in September. Every failure sets me back a couple of months being trapped in this god forsaken state (NH)

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

Peanut, I think it must just be peoples' nature to hate their home state. For instance, CT is an utter mess and I would LOVE to get out of here, but it's where my job is and I'm not the gambling type when it comes to employment, so here I'll stay.

I love NH though–as I mentioned a couple weeks ago I went there on vacation to my family's lake house and it is just such a better place to be. You guys don't have sales tax and it seems that prices are just generally lower than they are in CT (particularly in the gas area). I know exactly WHY CT is in such shambles, but I won't go into my political rants on here.

Anyway, I look forward to having a fellow board member to complain with when we receive our failing FAR scores. Cheers to that!

I think I dislike being here because I lived in NYC for 4 years and was force to move back temporarily. Actually my main reason for dislike is the freeezing winters! Cali here I come

    @Jimbo & Peanut,

May I join your fail party? My brain doesn't want to hold on to more than 5 chapters, which is a problem since FAR has 9.

I don't love my home state either. I'm from California. There are many things that are nice about CA (like the weather), but the bad outweighs the good. I left because I couldn't take the high cost of living and because I got tired of the materialistic, superficial b.s. that reigns in So. Cal. You've been warned, Peanut.

I'll probably be at the party too, I'll bring the beer.

So much material to retain in just a few weeks of studying (I'm only on F7 my first time through), looks like my 1 week review will be crucial. Let's hope I can focus.

Bonds and Intercompany transactions have given me the most trouble. Pensions and Leases aren't helping either.

    A - 93 (7/1/11)
    R - 87 (7/29/11)
