PWC or any Big 4 at 35?

I have an MBA in Accounting and am a CPA. My experience is within the Finiancial Services industry. I have exposure in brokerage, trading, back/middle office, risk mitigation and some light audit and accounting work.

Would the Big 4 even look at someone like me b/c of my age? I believe that i would be an asset to any of their Financial Services divisions with my experience. Would that see it that way?

If not, which direction do you think i should go in given my experience?

I am still employed making decent money, just wanted a change.

I know my boss worked for KPMG in mergers and acquistions when he was like 40-45. He is a lawyer, CPA, MBA, but I thik he was doing the legal stuff. You never know!

The person who worked in my position before me went to E&Y for a senior position. I believe she's 39 or 40. I also know someone who's in their early 30's who went to PwC as an entry level audit staff.

I don't think your age would be an issue at all. 35 is not even old! You would probably be at LEAST a Senior Associate to start. With your experience, possibly a manager. I only worked at PwC (so I can't speak for the other Big 4) but I think the only issue is that those positions are not typically seeking employees as frequently as a tax or audit staff. However, this may be different, depending on your location.

    Good luck to you!

I joined one of the Big at 31. It's very possible. I've helped few people join my firm and I'm willing to do the same for you if you want me to. If you're interested, please send me your email address (or create a new one just for this purpose if you want to keep your confidentiality) and post it here. I'll then contact you to let you know how we will proceed. Which state do you live in?

Getting done with CPA was the most difficult part. The rest should be fairly simple if besides your license, you also have a great attitude and can work well in a group and aim for team success instead of just individual one.

Let me know what you think and we will take it from there.

    @Path to CPA,

Thanks! That is very kind of you. I will 100% take you up on this.

    Here is my current situation:

I am in the process of selling my home in Chicago and making a move to Cleveland. Yes, I know, Chicago to Cleveland. However, my wife is from there and wishes to return home to be closer to her family. We have 2 young children and her folks would help out a ton. Anyway, I just received my regsitration from Illinois, so i can officially hold myself out as a CPA now. I was waiting for that designation to create an updated resume and am in the process of doing so.

Cleveland is not a two tiered state like Illinois, so i want to get liscensed here next. Which shouldnt take long. Either way, i am going to create a new gmail count this evening (cant use gmail at work) and send it to you for corresponance purposes. Again, thanks for your help!

    @ ppierce

I just sent you an email using your new Gmail. Please keep my email address very confidential and do not share it with anyone for any reason. We will continue our conversation in depth via email.

@ All who is interested in the opportunity, passing all 4 parts of the CPA exam is necessary to facilitate your transition in Big4. If you're looking for an entry level position, on-campus recruiting, job related conferences and job fairs are the best ways to get in Big4. The type of help that I provide requires a CPA license (or passing all 4 parts) and at least 1 year of accounting work experience. If this applies to you, please let me know.

    Good luck to all.

Cleveland is a great city, I grew up there and you should like it.

    @ Path to CPA

It is very nice of you to offer such assistance. I'm done with 3 of 4 and have a very similar background to PPierce except I”m 33 with not as much experience. After I pass FAR in Aug are you willing to talk with me via email too? Thanks in advance

Greetings Path To CPA…very nice of you to offer assistance. I too would greatly appreciate some help. I'll meet the one-year experience requirement on September 1st and will be certified soon thereafter, depending on how long the Texas Board takes to process my application for licensure. Let me know what you think. Thanks!
