I did the sample test for FAR and one of the SIMS was strange.
It wanted me to write a FASB code? I looked at the answer and it was literally just random digits all over the place. Looked similar to a credit card number lol

Question is, are there pretest questions (or questions that pose as pretests) even in the sample exam? I just assumed that maybe they were trying to give us an idea on what those fake questions would be like.. and then started getting anxious 🙁 Come to think of it, they only give us 10 MCQs and like 6 SIMS in those samples.. why would they waste space like that?

Soooo do I need to know those FASB codes? If so I’m sooo f–ed I guess. 🙁 Anyone have any insight? 🙁

Are you not using a CPA exam study product like Becker or Roger? They tell you you about those questions. They're called research questions. You don't have to memorize the FASB code but you will get a question just like that and it is not a pre-test. You have to use keywords from the question and find the exact section and paragraph in the code. There's an advanced search option to use that is basically a must-use tool.

It is a good thing you looked at the AICPA questions because in my opinion the research questions are freebeees (sp?). I use wiley and they appear in the SIMs. I remember on the exam I took for far there was one and it wasn't exactly easy. I had to dig a little to find it but still a giveaway of points in comparison to the other items presented in the exam.

What study material are you using for this exam because if you haven't hit this

I've been using Ninja. I don't think I've seen research questions in Ninja's SIMS.

Since it is a sim as you described it is basicly a give away,an easy points to score, all you need to do is to press at the authoritative literature icon and search within (the first 3 numbers would be the answer) not like a research question which could be very hard to find, coz you need all paragraph number not just the first 3.
Btw, Tim gearty made me memorize 958 which is the code for the NFP section in the codification, i don't know why he insisted but just in case its an mcq (where you cant access the auth lit).
Do as they say thats my point, they know a thing or two about what we all are trying to be done with here
