Postponed FAR – question

So I was originally scheduled to take FAR at the end of November, but have rescheduled to the 1st week in January due to lack of motivation, health issues, etc. I’m now back at it – working through F3 homework (skipped over F2 for now). I do not have the time for 1 section per week, so I have to combine 2 sections at a time for the majority of my weeks left in order to leave overview/review/practice exam time of 2 weeks before my test.

I know what sections people find the most difficult, and I’m hoping to pair those with some “easier” sections so that I can manage 2 sections per week, on top of working full time, and taking care of my son. Does anyone have any recommendations to help me get through this? Thanks so much!

I feel your pain…there has been days I just wanted to stop studying and post pone it until December, but I just keep telling myself I want this over and done with. Glad to hear you are getting back into the study mode. My advice, is try the NINJA method, get through the lecture videos and then come back to do all the MCQ's, I mean by the time you finish all the videos and the included HW with them, you will have already forgotten the first couple of chapters since FAR contains tons of information. It will definitely give you more time to set aside towards MCQ's, which in my opinion is the best way to learn the material. The lectures gives you a basis of the material, but the MCQ's help you really understand the concepts.

This is what has worked for me, and I hope it will work for you! Good luck on your exam! I'll be taking FAR the 14th of Nov :-/….wish me luck!

    REG - 2/27/2013 - 78!!!!
    AUD - 5/17/2013 - 72...Retake July 12th - 79!!!!
    BEC - 8/29/2013 - 77!!!!
    FAR - 11/14/2013- 72....Retake February 28th - 80!!! DONE!!!!

I am thinking about not going in order and just tackling the chapters that seem the most daunting first. I agree that NINA method is the best.

    BEC: 73, 81
    AUD: 85
    FAR: 71, 77
    REG: 74, 75...finally DONE! 😀

*This is my 2nd attempt at the CPA exam. For all of you who have failed this exam many times, given up on it, or taken a break like me, remember that it is still possible to finish what you started...failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently 🙂

What are you using to study? It sounds like you are using Becker. I would do what kkimi said.

You should also use the comprehensive progress test on your becker software. I didn't use it for FAR. But I feel my final review would have been SOOO much easier had I done the comprehensive progress tests after finishing each chapter.

Definitely do the progress tests after you finish the homework for each chapter. It will help you remember the previous chapters. This would be super helpful for a long section like FAR.

    REG: 86 8/3/13
    BEC: 85 8/31/13
    FAR: 87 10/27/13
    AUD: 90 11/30/13

My far exam has postponed to dec. 4th as well and i'm not even half way done for my first review..

Looks like we're in the same page. Let's get desperate and jump in to the studying-mode

I'm using wiley book and i'm planning to solve about lil less than 2000 individual mcq (1800 wiley+ some becker) and i'm gonna re-solve them once or twice

Trying to do 100q per day(including note) but it takes me forever to solve a single question on my first attempt. Hopefully i speed up as i go..

F1, F4, F10 were definitely the easiest. And once you memorize the Governmental, Proprietary, Fiduciary fund names, F8 becomes a breeze. F2 becomes a lot easier after a few go arounds, even though it's crazy overwhelming at first.

F9 was very tricky and probably the hardest for me. F3 I was good with about 80% of it, but some I struggled with even on exam day. F6/F7 were middle of the road.

Sorry that is all jumbled up – but those are my thoughts. I haven't heard back on my exam yet, but I felt like I knew the material pretty well.

I think you're making it too complicated. It's hard to divide FAR into “easy” and “hard” chapters because it all depends on the person. Instead:

    – Set a maximum amount of time you can spend on ANY Chapter.

    – If you reach your maximum amount of time, move on to the next Chapter.

    – If you get an “easy” chapter and have time left over, move on to the next Chapter.

    – Always, always, always do a Progress Exam before moving on.

    – Take notes on which topics are more difficult and may need more review later.

    – Once you finish all the Chapters, just do cumulative non-stop MCQ's.

Biggest mistake people make in FAR is spending too much time in specific areas they may be weak in. In my opinion, know how to doany journal entry, master Governmental/Not-for-Profit, and just cumulatively study everything else.

    FAR: 50, 76!
REG: 74... (ouch baby, very ouch), 76!
    AUD: 65, 91!?
    BEC: 80! Aaaand doneskies!

    May 2012 to August 2013. Can't believe it's over.
