Postpone, Or Die Trying

Taken 0 parts so far, and have FAR scheduled for 8/31. Studying for this has given me the utmost respect for those who have passed this exam. I don’t even know if this is possible at this point.

I’m using Becker. Just now starting F9. Work demands (public accounting), and outside life have made this so freaking stressful. Just did a progress test, first time looking at previously studied material, and did awful. Just awful. It’s like I don’t remember a single thing I studied.

I can either kill my self over the next two weeks and go in and just try my best I guess, or postpone until next window. I’m EXTREMELY hard on myself so failure will absolutely devastate me. I’ve been out of school for 4 years and am already pissed off it has taken me this long just to get started. At the same time I can’t stand knowing that I feel like I’m just handing over AT LEAST a year of my life to the AICPA.

Venting, obviously but wondering if this is even worth it.

I would reschedule so you can “try” to feel a little more confident and have more time to study. I rescheduled my exam and went through the book nearly 3 times in order to feel somewhat comfortable with most, not all, of the material. But that's just me. I applaud you for doing this while working. Although soon, i'll be doing the same thing too. But I agree, it's very hard to study for this, especially if you're working 🙁

Reschedule so you have more time to get to know the material better rather than waste 200 unless you feel somewhat confident in the material!

    BEC - 81 4/08/14
    FAR - 80 8/25/14 Thank you Jesus!

    AUD - 70 (May 14), xx 5/1/15

I definitely wish I was one of those people who got all 4 exams done in 4 months, but unfortunately LIFE (being a newlywed, stress, adjusting to newlywed life and cpa exam study life, as well as starting a job with a Big4 which I am very happy about) got in the way, just happy that I am passing period!!

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!

Far is a lot of information. I remember reading it three times before finally retaining the information. It is especially difficult if you are working. It is what it is and you have to decide on what works best for you and how you can retain the information. Also, once you start working on the McQ, it will begin to make sense. If you have to reschedule to be prepared , i think is better than failing the exam. Nice thing is your 18 mths won't start counting until you pass a section. Good luck!

    Far - Passed 83
    Aud - Passed 84
    Bec - Passed 77
    Reg- Passed 77

I feel your pain. I'm taking it one day before you and am just starting to take progress tests. I just took one and got a 59%. I feel like jumping off a bridge, but my low score shows that I may be too stupid to even do that correctly. I'm just gonna die trying I think. Probably too late to learn all this stuff. I totally feel like everything I've been working on the last 5 weeks is just gone. I can offer no guidance or help, just condolences. I'll see you in hell my friend.

First – Accept the fact that you're handing over at LEAST a year of your life. No way around that.

Second – considering where you are, I'd reschedule. Especially since you said that failing would devastate you (which it shouldn't – it's not how many times we fall off the horse, it's how many times we get back on)

Regardless, as others have said, I too reviewed FAR over and over and over again before I tested. If you're going through on the first try and not remembering stuff from the beginning, you'll need more time.

I was just considering this same dilemma for myself yesterday. Don't feel anywhere near ready for BEC on 8/31, but I decided to die trying. I don't have as many distractions as you, so I will push forward and do what I can. Already have a plan B to retest in Oct, if I don't make it through.

    Just keep pushing forward.

Ahh DoOver, you put a smile on my face knowing that I'm not alone. All I see on peoples signature blocks are FAR 95, FAR 89, FAR 99. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE.

I've decided I'm going to just die trying as well. Good luck to you.

Well consider what kind of person would continue to post on here AFTER taking this thing. If I can ever pass, I will definitely not be trolling CPA Exam forums. But I guess if I got 95s on everything I would want to hang out and let everyone know. No one else would really care, except people who are currently taking the exam.

However, this is only my opinion based on 100% speculation. Consider the source. I'm someone who can't even crack a freakin progress test. They are probably just be nice people who want to help. Either way, their scores make me sick to my stomach.

I just took another progress test and got a 50%. Seems I'm getting worse, which is just lovely. I had a 3.8 GPA in my MAcc program which makes it hurt even more. That last progress test really knocked the wind out of me.

If something is going to change in the near future (work schedule, your life) then reschedule. Otherwise you'll be copying and pasting this post in 5 weeks. Give it a try.

When you're really committed to doing this nothing will stand in your way.

And doover was this board not started by someone who was done with the exams? To each their own, no need to judge others, I passed almost 3 years ago and still here.

If you're getting anywhere near 65% on the MCQs, just go for it.

You will NEVER feel ready. Also, you'll never feel like you did well (unless you fail).

Sounds crazy, but it's true for a lot of people.

I vote for die trying. You really don't have anything to lose by taking the test at the end of a test window, except 4 hours of your day and the cost of the exam minus the $35 it would cost to reschedule. If you pass you won't have to worry about any of that, but if you don't you will be in the same position you are now with the same amount of time to study before the next testing window.

Haven't sat once? Take it. The first-time experience alone is worth something, even if your score is horrendous. Besides, you just might surprise yourself. I definitely did.

I think it's the same fee whether you cancel/reschedule two weeks before your date or 24 hours before your date. You may as well study like crazy for the next 10 days and then make a decision as to whether or not you're ready.

You'll never feel 100% ready and perfectly prepared, you'll be postponing until 2025 if you wait until you feel perfectly prepared! 😉 Stay the course, pound your MCQs, and do your best on 8/31!!!!
