I just read the proposed bill that changes the cpa work experience requirements for Nebraska…I am a little confused on what “authorized to engage in public accounting” means in regards to firms, partnerships, and corp. Here is what it says:
Two years of accounting experience satisfactory to the board, in any state, in employment as an accountant in a firm, proprietorship, partnership, corporation, limited liability company, or other business entity authorized in any state to engage in the practice of public accountancy under the supervision of an active certified public accountant who is the holder of a permit issued under subdivision (1)(a) of section 1-136 or the equivalent issued by another state
or
Three years of accounting experience satisfactory to the board, in any state, in employment as (i) an accountant in government or business under the supervision of an active certified public accountant who is the holder of a permit issued under subdivision (1)(a) of section 1-136 or the equivalent issued by another state or (ii) faculty at a college or university of recognized standing under the supervision of an active certified public accountant who is the holder of a permit issued under subdivision (1)(a) of section 1-136 or the equivalent issued by another state.
The “current” work requirement is 2 years under a CPA in a licensed CPA firm. Does this just mean the same thing?
Here is a link to the proposed bill:

The change doesn’t matter to me, as I am currrently with a CPA firm, but some of my friends work at H&R Block and were wondering if they could fall under the 2 year experience, or the 3 year experince.
Obviously, this is speculation on the bill being passed, but my managing partner says it will “most likely” pass.
The state board won’t say anything until the bill has been passed, so I thought I would throw it here for some thoughts on what it means.
