Hey guys – So I didnt really study for BEC much, did a lot of cramming and I ended up passing by some miracle. I think I’m letting that get to my head since Im not really studying for FAR. I have my exam in less 30 days and I work full time. Is there any way I can pass this thing under those conditions?

    Hi, Needtopass

I don't think cramming for FAR is going to work, but It is not penalty for trying.

postpone it. There's no point in failing it and shelling out another $250 for a retake. Learn from your mistake and study for it next time around. There's so much material in FAR it seems like it goes on forever.

    Option 1: postpone

Option 2: study 30 hours a week until your exam.

I passed FAR with less than a month of study time. I took some days off work though and spent a ton of time studying during those 3 to 4 weeks. Look at what else you have going on in your life and decide if you can devote a lot of time in these next 30 days. I'm always amazed at how much more focused my study time is when the deadline is only a couple of weeks away. Good luck, whenever you decide to take it.

It's possible, yes, but I don't think it's advisable. I'll share my story, but I think I'm a little more an exception than the rule…

I work full time and have a contract position on the side…I also have 2 young children under the age of 3. So I'm extremely busy…I started studying for FAR on April 30 and took the test on May 29. My goal was simply to get as much done per night as I possibly could after my kids went to sleep…that usually left 2-3 hours. I studied EVERY night (weekends and weekdays offer me the same studying opportunity…no benefit or additional time on the weekend for this guy) and squeezed out as much as I possibly could before faceplanting into my keyboard from exhaustion. Then, on the day prior to the exam, I sent the wife and kids to her parents house and put in a good 8-10 hours or so.

I slid by with a 79, but I think it's more attributable to the fact that I'm 33 years old and I've been working in private accounting for the last 10 years or so, so a lot of what was on FAR I've actually done in real life. So some of the material was merely gaining a little more perspective into the details…while others I had to learn fresh like most other candidates.

If you don't have external limitations like wife and/or kids, I think it's doable, but you better crack that book sooner rather than later!

I honestly think that FAR is the one section that you really can't cram for. The others, I think it's possible. BEC, I studied for 4 weeks, and got REALLY serious the last week. Same with REG. But I think I am more the exception. Although some people wouldn't say that 4 weeks is cramming! 🙂

    REG - 80 (Becker only)
    BEC - 76 (Becker only)
    AUD - 71, 76 (Becker only)
FAR - 65, 74, 81! (Becker, Wiley Test Bank, Ninja notes & Audio)

    CPA Class of 2012 🙂
