I graduated about a year ago with my Master’s in accounting. At the time, I decided that I probably wasn’t going to get my licensure. However, since then, I have been given notice at my job and I have a few more months to begin looking for a new one. When I began looking around, I realized that majority of the jobs within my pay range and experience level all require CPA licensure.

    Ok, so here’s where I need help….

Where do I begin? I have been out of school for a little over a year….

Register first or Study materials first?

Which section should I take first?

And I’m scared. I’m on a super super super tight budget and need to make sure that I pass the exams asap.

Thanks so much for helping out a newbie!!! 🙂 Appreciate it lots!

I'm using (hopefully it will be used) CPAexcel and I really liked that. Honestly if you buy the NINJA notes and audio you could just use cpareviewforfree.com to do practice multiple choice questions. They have a ton on there and have them broken down by section too. I supplemented my CPAexcel materials with the cpareviewforfree.com MCQs. I've passed 3 of 4 first try and am currently just waiting on my FAR score to be released. And in terms of order, I would say take them in order of how you want. I took REG during my master's year (over my winter break) because I had just taken a business law and corporate tax class, then took BEC and AUD (in the spring semester). Took FAR last just because I wanted to leave myself with about 1.5 months to study and I felt it was enough. Anyways it's honestly about how comfortable you are with the sort of materials. For me REG was the hardest because I am not a tax person. So it just depends on what your strength and weaknesses are. Good Luck!

    REG - 78
    BEC - 88
    AUD - 97
    FAR - 81

Figure out what state you're licensing in. The initial licensure application is usually quite a bear, b/c it means getting your school transcripts sent over and purchasing your first NTS. Then figure out which part you want to take first, and then the exam prep course materials. This process takes time and a fair amount of money, the longest time stretch getting all of your paperwork in and getting your NTS. Get going on the paperwork process, b/c school registrar offices are a little quiet and sleepy now and can help you out more easily. Everything turns into a mob scene riot when school starts in a few weeks.

    Couldn't pass again!
