Passing FAR

I just figured I would write some words of encouragement for those studying for FAR. I don’t consider myselft good at accounting nor having a passion for it, so I felt I would share how I passed FAR(which was my first exam of the four). I used Becker, watched all the lectures once, did the all the homework once, then went back and did it again. after that, I took the practice exam three times and reviewed the simulations separately. again like I said, I was just an average accounting student at a good university getting As, Bs and Cs(mostly these)…anyways, thats just my 2 cents, I know FAR is a beast, but its simply just getting through the material twice and doing a couple of reviews to work on timing. best of luck to everyone!!

now I am tackling REG…any advice is appreciated!!

thanks for this post. I'm taking far on Friday and i feel like i don't have a chance of passing it. I did all required hwks once, lectures once, and now going over homeworks again (I thought I will be able to do the supplemental questions, but I don't have time). Your post gives me hope, so thank you.

Good luck on REG, can't advice anything since FAR is my first.

good post wedger but i question, did u feel confident going into the exam? did u feel like you failed after leaving the testing center?

also, how much time did u spend reviewing?

from what I gather, the test is a mile long and an inch thick…I knew I had saw everything roughly 1-2x, but never was really scoring that great when going throught the MC questions on Becker. However I will note that in the last week before the test when they recommend to take practice exams, my scores were like 68%, 76% and %75(i think they say to add about 10ish % to that, roughly)…those provided some confidence because Beckers questions are tougher than the exam, but at the same time there would be questions that I would remember verbatum, so accurarcy of the test for me was in question…it did give me some hope though…as far as the actual exam is concerned, I felt like I did fairly ok in the MC section. Becker does a great job of preparing you as I didn't see many suprises and that is the key to these test I think…at least seeing types of questions once that way during the test you are not in shock about what they are asking you. In Sim 1 I felt like I got some right, but like they say, I spent my time on doing really well in the communication section scoring well above average there. They say if you are down to the wire to focus on the written communication, so I can say I definately spent a good while on making that solid. Sim 2 I completely bombed, guessed on just about every tab and not fully completing it, but like I said I made sure to do a good job on the written communication…Had I not learned that from this sight and knowing that its 10pts worth, I would have focused on the other tabs…

not sure if the above answered you question, but like I said, I did the MC roughly twice, did a practice exam 3x and reviewed about 70% of the simulations they provide…coming out of the test I was thinking I got either a 40% or an 85%, thats just the way they go…keep in mind Beckers questions prep you well and are much harder than the test. make sure to study gov & not-for-profit.

    good luck!!
