Pass versus Fail attitudes when leaving the exam? Your thoughts please………

Is it just me…..or is there a pattern here. I know of MANY instances where people walked out of the exam feeling they did great….only to fail (I myself have gotten two 74’s…..BEC & AUD)

While at the same time I know of MANY instances where people walked out of the exam willing to bet “a million dollars” that they had failed……only to wind up with a 76 or 75……

    Anyone have thoughts on this?

When I walked out of FAR, I knew I passed it. I told everyone that there was no way I did not pass that test, and that was the one that I did pass on the first try. When I got my 74's on the other three tests, I walked out of two of them feeling like I passed (AUD and BEC) and the other (REG) not feeling too good about it. When I passed AUD and BEC the second time I took them, I walked out feeling like I did enough to pass. As far as the other REG tests, I never feel confident about that one since it has always been my weakest, even going through school. When I took it the second time I felt pretty good about it (only to get a 70). My third time taking REG I walked out knowing that I failed and that I would be lucky if I scored a 70 (I scored 67). My fourth time taking REG in 1/10, I felt like I was on the bubble, I didn't feel like I got “hard” questions and I feel like I rocked the simulations. I am waiting on those scores to see if I have to take REG a fifth time before I lose credit for FAR. I never go into a test feeling like I am going to fail, so maybe that is why I walk out feeling pretty good (unless there were too many curveballs thrown). I never let the test psych me out, I feel like that way I can stay calm and not panic and have better recall. My problem with REG has been lack of proper preparation.

I walked out of FAR knowing that I had great chance of passing. I could tell an increase in the difficulty of the questions on the 2nd & 3rd testlet. I ended up with an 85.

In total I've had 3 passings and 2 failings.

I walked out feeling like I failed every time.

Felt like i failed REG.. I never even got to my 2nd simulation tab and only partially completed the 1st simulation. I got an 85.

BEC was a snap.. felt like I passed AUD but got a 71. I failed FAR the first time miserably

I knew when I walked out of FAR I passed. the questions kept getting harder but I was just on fire. I even got a migrain halfway through and thought that would make me fail. But it was just meant to be, I got an 86

REG, I knew I failed. I barely finished one Simulation, the other one I did not touch but somehow got an 88

    I AM A CPA 🙂

Congrats Toddie00! I didn't finish my REG exam either. This is my last test and I am hoping for the best…

I think what you are noticing is the effect that questions get harder if you are doing well. When I took FAR, I felt like I was struggling alot…and it was only getting harder as I went through the test. If it is getting harder, that means you are probably doing something right, even if it feels like you are bombing the test. I ended up with an 82.

I left that test feeling defeated, having run out of time on the last simulation, but I passed despite that.

I just took FAR on yesterday and I really don't know how I did. I went into my FAR exam with a totally different attitude. I felt like I had prepared myself well. I studied for over 150 hours and felt like I knew the concepts. I spent about 1.5 – 2 minutes on each MCQ and I either knew it or I didn't. I went back over all of the MCQs 2 times. I was able to work all of the tabs on the simulations. I just pray that I passed. Now it is on to REG.

I felt like crap walking out of FAR and pretty well walking out of BEC. My scores don't necessarily reflect that either, so go figure. AUD was somewhere in between the two, but it was my first exam so the feeling was a bit different.

Well so far AUD is the only one I have taken. I read a lot of stuff on this forum before taking the test, and I read Jeff's book, and it said if you walk out of the test thinking it was too easy, then that is a problem. I also knew about how the test is adaptive. So I really tried to tell if my testlets were getting harder. To be honest I felt as if the first testlet was the most difficult. I marked 7 for review on the first testlet, and only 2 or 3 on the next 2. I also took my time, took my time on the sims and finished w/ over an hour and a half left. And I passed w/ an 81. Too be honest, it was easier than I had expected, BUT, that is probably because the difficulty was hyped up so much for me that I studied for it like I have never studied for anything in my life. I hardly ever studied in college…I was lazy about studying, and didn't really need it for many classes.

    AUD - 81, BEC - 74, 80, FAR - 82, REG - 81

    My Experience:

    AUD:

79 – Jul '09- Walked out feeling somewhat confident

    BEC:

    74 – May '09 – Walked out feeling somewhat confident, but i had trouble with cost accouting;

74 – Jul '09 – Walked out feeling extremely positive

76 – Nov '09 – Walked out feeling EXTREMELY pissed off and angry.

    REG:

80 – Nov '09 – Walked out just pissed off, thinking I bombed the thing..

    FAR:

Attended – Feb '10 – Walked out in a daze and somewhat pissed off, I'm certain i messed that thing up… Those “fringe” topics pissed me off and I had to guess on 4 MC per testlet and I may have been vague with the comunication. The testing center has 4 hour of video of me giving the NJ 3rd finger salute to many questions and a double salute to the simulations.

    Lets see…
