Overwhelmed… Can anyone offer me a better study plan?

I’ve been studying for FAR for about 9 weeks now and I’m feeling a little overwhelmed. I’m using Becker and I bought the 10 point combo. I’ve been through all the Becker lectures, but I have about 14% unfinished problems in 5 chapters that I cant seem to complete. The areas are: Intercompany transfers, cash flows, government-wide, RE, and stocks. I planned on taking the exam by August, so I devised a plan to focus on those problem areas and be complete with them by next week so I can start a full review by taking the final exams and redoing all the sims. Well, that was last week and I’m still kinda lost and not complete with them.

I was going to wait to use my Wiley test bank questions till after I was done with Becker and use it as a review, but I thought I’d give myself confidence by working problems in those areas I completed a long time ago. Bad idea. I got a 75% on all of the inventory questions. Although that’s not horrible, that was a section I thought I mastered! Although the things I missed were sometimes silly, I can’t help but think to myself “what else don’t I have mastered that I thought I did?” And “How am I going to be ready in 3-4 weeks if I don’t even have the things I thought I had mastered, as well as things I really don’t have mastered?” I’m almost scared to do other sections so my confidence/sanity isn’t wavered even more.

My current plan is going through notes, reworking areas I don’t understand, retaking any additional notes, study, then before I go to bed I read some of the 10 point combo notes and/or a some Wiley MCQ to keep me fresh on past lessons (just bought last week). Although I’ve learned a ton in the past few weeks, I clearly have deficiencies still and could use some advice. Thanks everyone!

    Passed all sections.

Everyone has deficiencies going into the actual exam. Just keep drilling the questions. And make sure when you answer the questions, you don't have the answers memorized, but know how to do the actual material.

Do you have any suggestions on how to tell if I'm ready for the exam?

Kls238, I don't think there is a bright line test that tells you if you're ready for the exam. You do your best, schedule the exam, and pray. 🙂

The best advice I got was to work the questions, over and over and over. And write things down. Take notes. Put things in your own words.

No one learns everything so don't feel discouraged about that. Time management is apart of it, too. You have to be able to make quick decisions during the test.

Good luck to you! I think 99% of us feel like crap going into the test and worse when we come out lol. It's a normal part of this (truly awful) process.

I don't think it's possible to feel ‘ready' for FAR; there's just too much information to process.

Just have a general working knowledge of the major areas and have the confidence to tackle any major concepts they throw at you. You don't need to master the minutiae.

Work on problem areas from the WTB — you know what they are. Aim for 70%+ in all of the topic areas and if you aren't there yet grind it out until test day. I was scoring in the 70's in a few major areas and walked out of there with a score in the 80s… don't lose hope.

I am taking FAR on Aug 10th. Here is my D-day plan:

I am currently reworking through each of the chapters and should be finished by Sunday (that means 7:30am-9:00pm with some appropriate breaks probably resulting in 10-11 hr days).

Once my second review is complete I intend to hit every free cpa exam review out there (fast forward has cpa mcqs; I haven't seen anyone mention them before). I took monday off to really drill in on my weak areas.

The work days leading up to the test (tues-thurs) I expect to spend an hour in the morning before work reviewing notecards/reading chapters/reviewing sims (I will decide where to focus as I complete more practice exams) and afterwork I plan on doing mcqs until my eye's bleed!!!!

Friday I will not study at all and Saturday I will probably read over some notes while waiting for exam.

    BEC: I defeated the Siren!
    AUD: I eliminated Medusa!
    REG: ?????
