So i am looking into taking the cap exam and need to register for a course in a couple of days. I am so torn as to which to choose. First i thought of Becker but not sure now, since i have been reading mixed reviews and also am considering Yaegar. I am really curious as to anyones story on the reviews they have taken and how much they liked it. I know all courses depend on home study through lectures, even the in person becker courses, i am held back by becker because of their pricing and is it all worth it. I would really appreciate the advice!!!

The biggest difference is Becker is more of a true review course while Yaeger is a teaching course. If you just need a review of concepts you already know pretty well, I would say Becker. If you have been out of school for awhile and/or need some additional hand-holding on topics, go with Yaeger.

OOO i see, I mean i would love to learn more in-depth about the topics i have covered in college which were brushed upon. Also if I chose Yaegar is there another supplement i should use with it. I see you used Yaegar for your FAR section and did great, are you also depending on yaegar for the rest?

A lot of people who use the Becker course end up supplementing with the Wiley test bank. But I would say from reading posts on here, people that use Yaeger don't have to supplement with anything else besides the Wiley book and testbank which is already included in the purchase price.

I am starting to sound like I work for Yaeger or something b/c I feel like I'm always posting about how great they are. But if they were able to get me an 84 on FAR, then they are good! I am using them for all 4 sections. I take Audit on Mon. and feel very prepared.

I have used Yaeger & Wiley primarily. I have also used cpareviewforfree.com and Gleim Test Prep for additional MCQ. So far I am 3 for 3.

I know nothing about Yaeger other than that is uses the Wiley book. There is a reason the Wiley books are $35 – the only thing I can compare the tiny, dense print and cheap, thin paper to is a phonebook. Sure, it might have everything you need to pass the exam, but it also has 100x too much information.

Becker has everything presented in concise, readable outlines that tell you what you need to know to pass the exam and nothing more. I tried using Wiley for FAR because my Becker material was two years old but gave up after an hour because the presentation was garbage compared to Becker. The book is full of typos and outdated/incorrect information. If you don't mind spending 3x the time studying for the same result, go with Wiley/Yaeger. Otherwise just get Becker and be done with it. There is a reason all the large firms pay for Becker – it works.

@konyar – just so you are informed about krg's comment about Wiley… I would never, ever recommend studying just from the Wiley book. It is overwhelming and way too much info that you don't need to pass. The only reason one would study from that is if they were going for the Sells award for the highest score. Yaeger uses the Wiley book b/c they feel it is the best one on the market, but they weed out A LOT of the book and tell you what to focus on and what to skip over. The FAR book looks intimidating b/c it's over 1,000 pages, but that includes a lot of intro stuff about exam tips, lots of MCQ's and SIMS, etc. Another great thing about Yaeger is some of the handouts they give you take several pages of text in the Wiley book and condense it into a chart format. This makes it easier to understand and visualize during the exam.

I'm using Roger for my review which I really like.

He uses Wiley as well so I think you'll be doing mostly the same homework as Yaegar students just a different lecture. Yaegar was my second choice since I liked the fact that they advertise themselves as a teaching course (I wasn't a stellar accounting student).

In the end, I went with Roger because I needed something to spice up this whole review process and he is really funny. I literally laugh out loud at him at times. Watch his demo though…he's not for everyone.

Hey Cosmo– I just purchased Roger cram to get me over the hump for FAR. Did you use it? If you did, did you like it? I watched Yeager, Gleim, and Roger demo videos today and Roger was the only one that didn't make me want to fall asleep. I feel like I have all of Becker memorized and still can't pass so I need a different perspective. Do you have a review of Roger?

Hopeful-I debated on the cram but didn't buy it. In the end, I just re-watched some of the lectures on my weaker areas. I guess it worked..I got the 1 point I needed (plus a couple more).

I think you'll be just fine using him to get the points you need. Like you said, it'll be a whole new perspective.

Good luck…you're in the home stretch!

@apbandj – yea thats what I figured. I am reading such good reviews on Yaegar and so many people have posted about how they switch over after using other courses especially Becker or use it as a supplement. I am going to try it out and see how it works out. Eventhough i just graduated in accounting, is till feel like i need more reinforcement with some principles in accounting.

@ cosmo I was debating roger as well but he is just too much for me lol. I watched his review videos and liked it but thought yaegar was more my style. I was so set on Becker but after finding this forum and reading about other peoples great experiences with those review courses I am skeptical to spend the money on Becker.

Another vote for Yaeger. While I do have complaints about some aspects of their course, it does work. 3 for 3, and the only supplement I use is the Gleim testbank which you can do without.

Get CPAExcel….the cheapest of all (except Wiley) with a fantastic tb (2000 MCQs and about 200 SIMS) and no expiration date…….

I got CPAExcel too. The coolest thing is it never expires unless you pass all four parts. The quality is also good. You can try it for free and if didn't like it, forget it.

If I had to choose again, I'd use CPAExcel. Primary reason: Cost!

They boast serious pass rates also.

    B - 77
    A - 72, 74, 74
    R - 88
    F - 61

I've had no experience w. Yeager, however, I have had experience w/ Lambers & Becker. Here are my thoughts of the two

1.) Lambers – alot cheaper. However, customer support is little to none. I've failed multiple sections, some more than once. I guess you get what you pay for.

2.) Becker – more expensive. 2x more than Lambers. But the customer (techinical and academic) support is far superior. The people, Karen Slater & co, have done an excellent job getting back to my questions (I've had a lot) in a timely & friendly manner. Becker gives you a ton of a material to work on between Passmaster, the videos, and the book material. I've really enjoyed my time w/ Becker. I feel better prepared for my FAR section next week than I did w/ Lambers.

    Best of luck to you.
