out of FAR exam Oct 27! Failed for sure

I’m so upset. Contrary to most of the posts I saw here, my FAR exam was all computational MC ( probaly only 10 theoretical questions!!!). As a result, I had only 1h10 left for 2 sims, which are all long tasks for each tab, 2 of which are unfamiliar- and all journal entries. Can you believe that: For each Sim, I could do 1 tab and 1 written communication. The rest, even the research question, i couldn’t locate a correct journal entrie let alone calculate the amount. 30 minutes for each sim, I hardly do anything

I spent around 270-300 hours for this FAR, I did well on the MC, I was only unsure of 5 MC for each testlet. I can’t believe why I had a hard test overall. FAR is my last section. And now I start reviewing for my next year retake for sure.

I m using Becker. Do you guys know which materials have plenty Simulations for me to practice. I’m not good at the journal entries at all? And while waiting for new course, which one can i review for the time being so that it is not affected by IFRS next year?

Sorry to hear.. but you never know until the scores are released! I had a weird FAR exam earlier this month. I feel that I failed. The hardest part is I keep recalling MCQ word for word and realizing I selected the wrong answer.. and I keep recallign those sims and how I got those wrong! Geez.. I can't wait till this testing window is closed so I can start testing in the next one (I guess). I think I'll just go page by page in the book and write down all of the journal entries that I didn't know.. I did have journal entry questions that were not in the Becker review book (at all). ;(

Oh yeah.. and don't beat yourself up over it.. the test is done… everyone gets a different exam.. can't really go by other people's recommendations! Maybe the MCQ helped to get you to that 75!!!

I'm sorry to hear this folks…am really dreading my exam on 11/29. However, if you did really well on the MCQ, that counts for 70% of your overall score, and then if you do well on the written portion, you could still pass. Here's to hoping.

I've just been overwhelmed this week by the vast and varied amount of material in FAR…so tired by the time I get home from work every day but staying up until midnight studying and then spending every minute of every weekend studying too. Guess that is all part of the show though – just would feel better if I felt that it was going to pay off on test day.

I wonder why the AICPA makes some exams more computational and some more theoretical since all candidates have the the same time allotment. I'm not sure which I prefer – I think theoretical. I tend to do better with theory when a clock is ticking…I'm slow to calculate, even when I know how to do it.

Again, good luck to you both…at least you'll both know, most likely, by the first window.

Annie do not jump to conclusions, just wait; I never studied to many simulations, I just concentrate to know the material; once you know the material, you can do the simulations. There's many candidates that did very good at the MCQ's and they couldn't finished the simulations and still passing the test.

    Good luck!

Remember Annie, all you need is a 75 to pass!!

Annie, if your mcqs were hard you have a big chance of passing.

I'm convinced that if you've prepared reasonably well and still leave the test unsure, there is just no point in guessing if you've passed or failed. Its completely up in the air. I've heard stories left and right from people who left entire simulations blank, perceived the same level of difficulty throughout the test, and so on and so forth. These people also went on to get passing grades ranging from 82 to 91.

All I know is that I'm seriously frustrated with how these scores are reported. You can get anything you want done in a matter of minutes or hours in today's day and age, and it still takes anywhere from weeks to months to get a score on a test thats almost entirely graded by a computer? Its really annoying to know that my test grade is just sitting somewhere right now. I'm sure you can tell by now how much damn agita I have over this b/s. I should be studying for AUD, which I have in a week and half.

Haha. Pretty much most experiences where people properly prepared and had a difficult time means they did well. whitesox's comment is hopefully what will happen for you.

    Potatogun and Whitesoxfan CPA,

I can't believe why your scores so high? Did you use Becker?and I bet both of you will get 90 in BEC. Me, I'm 90% sure I fail. How can I pass when I could only do 1 tab ( not sure if it's correct) and 1 written essay for each SIM?

Just trust me, you can pass. Don't count yourself out yet. Yes, I realized you didn't finish the simulations, felt like the multiple choice destroyed you, etc. You could have passed.

    Yes, I used Becker.

Dan, not everybody can be so lucky like you. Two 75's, are you kidding me.

I also had a lot of computational questions on my test. It is so unfair. No one can convince me, even the best math person they prefer all math questions. It just simply takes more time. And time is one of the main elements of this exam.

annie, if you are so sure in your mcq, you still have a good chance to pass.

If you only had a few questions give you a hard time on each testlet, you may have most of the points needed to get a passing grade. Wait until you get the grade, you will probably be surprised.

Annie, just worry about FAR when the score comes out. Just focus on the next test. But you still have a possibility of passing.

Sounds similar to my experience. On my exam the questions were a mixed bag covering almost every area and evenly balanced between JEs, concepts, and calculations. 1st testlet was easy but 2nd and 3rd testlets were off the wall. I practically left 1 wc blank because i kinda understood what they were asking but i had no idea on the topic.

I would've believed it if they gave me a 74.

    DONE!
