    Hi NINJAS,

    I need HELP!!!!!

My husband has been looking for new career opportunities, and it seems that he has found one. We are now living in south Florida and based on the last few days phone discussion between him and the recruiter it seems that we are just waiting for a package on the mail with the official letter and related information.

The offer is: +12K to his current base salary, 6% bonus and 10K for relocation (lump sum).

The base salary and the bonus seem fair to me, but the relocation “package” not that much. We had another offer last year, the he refused and that company was giving us a package that included: realtor’s company to sell our house, 3 mos of rent in the new place and a company to help me in the job hunt. My concern is not with finding a job. It seems that Durham/Raleigh area is a good place for accountant, but as a home owner selling my house at my own expenses it’s kind of painful.

In the other hand I see lots of open positions in companies that I would love to work on, even the AICPA πŸ˜‰

Btw, we are a family of 3; husband, son (3 yrs old) and me.

So do you need help identifying restaurants in the area? You didn't exactly include a question of what you needed help with.

Or are you looking for anecdotes from people who have been through that situation?

    Any thoughts are welcome.

I am ready to move and go to any restaurant that you might recommend, but certainly and most important I need others with experiences or thoughts to share.

Well, if you ever make it to Chapel Hill. You need to go to “Alan & Sons”. (It's off of MLK Blvd depending on where you are in Chapel HIll). Exit 266 from I-40 and make a right. It's right before the railroad tracks. I've been a patron there for going on 25 years now, I'm 25 years old, and that place is amazing! It's NC BBQ at its finest!

As far as finding a job, I can recommend a great placement agency that got me my very first job out of college (I moved to the area last July). They also deal with experienced hires. I assume since you've passed your exam you have your CPA license?

    Thanks for your recommendation!!

Yes, I got my license last August. I will call or look on the NC board of accountancy website to learn the details about the license transfer.

Well, in this economy, I think $10K for relocation is pretty nice – of course it depends on what field he is in. But, the Raleigh-Durham area is highly desirable with many people wanting to move here, which may factor into the size of the relocation package.

As for accounting jobs in this area, just be aware that competition is very fierce (due to so many people wanting to move here). For my last job, there were over 400 applicants and I somehow managed to get it. It was my ONLY job interview over six months of looking. The AICPA does seem to have quite a few openings, if you can match the skillset they are looking for.

    Good luck with your decision/move!

Sounds like a good offer. My company generally offers relocation packages only to internal people; external hires have to relocate themselves.

    BEC - 2/25/12 - 90
    FAR - 5/18/12 - 87
    AUD - 8/4/12 - 94
    REG - 11/27/12 - 91 - done!
