OT– How to avoid the tax season weight gain?

I’m going into my first tax season in public accounting, and already my coworkers are telling me that everyone gains so much weight during tax season. Obviously there is going to be firm-provided food everywhere. Can any tax-season veterans tell me how to avoid growing out of my pants this year? Or at least offer commiseration?

Haha this made me laugh. I don't think there is any way to avoid weight gain during tax season. You are sitting on your a$$ more than usual and your stress level is up…which leads to more emotional eating than usual. šŸ™‚ I just try to pack my lunches and load up on high protien/healthy snacks. Thats not to say I don't have a breakdown now and then and head straight for the candy dish or leftover pizza in the fridge… but it does help a little.

Good luck with your first tax season! šŸ™‚

I always pack my own lunch and snacks. I tend to cave when I'm hungry if the only choice around me is junk food. If you have some healthier options options available it'll make it easier. Last tax season I brought in a big fruit plate a couple of times and everyone was thrilled to have something to pick at that wasn't junk.

@KJAX – weight gain is no laughing matter. šŸ™‚ Ha Ha. Tax season right after Christmas and New Years does not make for a happy spring. šŸ™‚

    Simple really, exercize.

I realize that time is tight through tax season and it's the last thing you want to do after a long day of tax work, but I force myself to get 30-60 minutes of exercize at least 3 days a week. It's not really that much time if you think about it. I just stop by the 24 hour gym on my way home.

Not only does it help prevent the tax season muffin top, but I also sleep better at night and focus better at work.

The same way you avoid weight gain at any other time.

Dont eat garbage and exercise. Theres really no better way to relieve stress than lifting weights or going for a run. I actually work out more during busy season.
