OT – Headphones at work

Any use headphones to listen to music at work…constantly, occasionally, or rarely?

Anyone encounter policies AGAINST using them?

Can’t speak for anyone else, but for me, it’s an absolute must have. To not have them would be like a caffeine junky not getting their coffee in the morning.

When I was in a cube I would use them or just have one in if a busy day and I may not notice someone trying to get my attention. Now I have an office, I listen to my music VERY softly on my computer. Turn it off if Boss comes in. My co worker accross the hall always has one in her ear too.

Our building only has 7 people and I have my own office, so no headphones here, just computer speakers. I don't feel the need to turn it down when people come in, I just try to pick more “tasteful” Pandora stations as I do listen to a lot of music that would probably be a little too hardcore for our older tax preparers =P There have been days though, where I just needed angry music, so I do turn that down if people come in to talk to me.

I'm completely incapable of going extended periods of time without music, my brain just shuts off. I wouldn't like having earbuds in at work, but I would have to use at least one if I were in a cubicle situation to keep my head from exploding.

LOL, I just don't want boss hearing my Enya station on Pandora and judging me. Jk, I just feel like I can't give the person walking into my office enough attention with the music still going. But when I'm alone I must have it on also!

I hate earbuds, so my headphones are the noise canceling, Bose over the ear headphones lol. I do audit, I wear them whenever, but usually take them off if client comes >=)

Most people use their headphones, but I hate having them in my ears all day so I just use my computer speakers. We have our own big audit room at our client so it's not a problem.

No problems on my team…nobody really cares if you listen to music or not. However, I will warn you…do NOT listen to Mitch Hedberg standup while trying to work…A) you will not be able to focus, and B) you will disturb your co-workers with your raucous laughter.
