Monday, April 9th I was hammering away at work on quater-end, stressing over stuff that really doesn’t matter when the phone rang. My Mom went home to be with God, she had been sick for some time with COPD and eventually her body just quit. She had some great days at the last and was really feeling good (as good as she could feel). We spent Saturday evening with her and had some great family time.

I had planned to begin studying again on Monday (after quarter end and tax season). I’m not sure how I will end up studying with all this on my mind but I am telling you that I am now a man on a mission. I’m going to do this for my Mom.

God love you Mom, we will miss you forever.

This made me tear up a bit…not an easy feat. It was just such an honest, emotional post…caught me off guard. I'm so sorry for your loss. Sure, pass the exam for your mom, but do it for yourself too. Good luck, cpapending.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss CPApending – maybe take some time off and just deal with your emotions and the grieving process and then get right back on and finish this off for her!

@CPApending – I lost my dad February 2011 to COPD. I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom and my dad are our Angels now, watching us, so we have to make them proud.

Aww… so sorry for your loss. That's a tough one. I agree, taking some time off to grieve might be beneficial. (hug)

I'm sorry for your loss. I can totally relate since I had a similar experience. Less than one month before my first exam (January 10, 2012), my father passed away from a heart attack. He was the greatest man I ever met. I wasn't with him when that happened but one day before he passed away he told me not to get distracted (he felt tired at that time) and not to worry about him.

As for the CPA exam, let me tell you something quite frankly; for the next couple of weeks your study time quality will go down the hill and you will worry a lot about disappointing your late mother. Don't worry about it, and I'm pretty sure that your mother wouldn't like it if you punish your self to pass the exams. I took a couple of weeks off from studying after the funeral since I wasn't really in a proper “study mode” and I was still able to pass the exams. Retrospectively, I still felt that I should have rescheduled my exams. If you feel ready then go ahead and take it, if not, rescheduling might be a better idea.

You are right by the way about the motivational part, it sure helped me, but don't push it too far. There are more important things in life than passing the CPA exam.

Wow, I'm so sorry for your loss but I think you're taking a great attitude about it. Granted, I didn't know your mom, but I imagine she'd want you to finish strong. Just make sure that you take time to tend to your own mental and emotional health as well.

I can't imagine what you're going through but I truly admite your resolve.
