So I’m home today, trying to get some of my Becker homework done since I actually have to pass the class at my university in order to graduate in May. My husband, who is a professor with a somewhat flexible schedule, is home too. Let me just say… it is REALLY hard to focus when someone is walking through the house humming, or making random observations about life, or when their phone rings, or their email notification bings… (a personal pet peeve of mine is the audible email notification).

There comes a point where saying “shhh” for the upteenth time isn’t adequate and I come pretty close to saying something unkind to the person I love most in this world. Argh.

What are your distractions or pet peeves when you’re trying to study?

jomarie, it'll get easier. I used to be addicted to Facebook but now I only check it maybe every other day, sometimes less often. A71 is a better addiction 😉

@jomarie I'm having the same problem…It's compounded by the fact that I have several friends going through difficult or important transition periods in their lives (breakups, moving, engagements, etc.) and it's getting so hard to keep putting them on my back burner when they keep messaging or texting me.

My birthday is right before my exam. I'm considering deactivating my facebook to keep myself from logging in to reply to all the messages…

I get distracted very, very easily too. And, I use a desktop, so can't study away from home.

My spouse also works from home.

Explain to your husband how easily you get distracted. Take advantage of the other suggestions posted here like ear plugs, headsets for the TV, etc.

Also, ask your husband to cooperate by talking on the phone using his cell phone or cordless phone outside or in the garage. (that's the arrangement at my house) It helps a lot!
