Yesterday was the 68th anniversary of D Day….largely overlooked by many/most, including the commander in chief (no I didn’t forget to capitalize) who couldn’t be bothered long enough to stop fundraising to give a speech about it.

I know a couple WWII vets that were there on D Day and let me tell you, it scarred them for life. Each Memorial Day we would give time at Church to tell about his service, America, and sacrifice. This man was what I consider an elder statesman….dignified, always under control, proud, honorable. But not long into his speech on D Day itself, he’s be a babbling mess as the memories came back of the horror. If it weren’t for men like him, this world would be a very different place and not in a good way.

God bless the men and WOMEN who fought in the greatest of wars.

Is it disrespectful that I assumed this post was in reference to today, being possible score release day?

But yes, thank you for calling attention to this, both my grandfathers fought in WWII.

No, D Day is often used in such a way and even then I don't think it's disrespectful. Since D Day, it has been used as a substitute for one's finest hour and also for a big day.

We fight wars today and life largely goes on per normal. We buy and line up for Iphones, we eat what we want, grocery store shelves are packed, etc. But in WWII, most of the able bodied men went off to war, many women volunteered, factories were converted to making bombs and military vehicles, planes, etc. There was little life aside from a corn field in the middle of Nebraska that was untouched. Amazing when you think about it, I don't think we could fight that war today.

But in any event, it does give us some parallels and perspective on this release day for sure.
