Hi, I’m just about to start reviewing for FAR. I was wondering what is recommended on how to self-study for this part using Becker’s materials. I have access to online lectures, the book and flashcards. Do I listen to the lecture and then read the chapter? Do I even need to read the chapter?

Thanks for your advice, it is greatly appreciated.

John, I like to watch the lecture and get all the highlights first and then read the chapter. I don't do any MCQs until I've read the chapter. I'll save the flashcards for whenever, I don't really set aside time for them.

I'm not sure if there is a recommended way to do Becker, you just have to find what works for you.

I would recommend reading the chapter though. The lectures don't cover everything in the book, and you don't know what might be tested, so it sure won't hurt. Plus it gives you a chance to slow down and make sure you get what Tim or Pete was talking about.

Just like CPAMike, I also viewed lecture first without reading a single sentence. After entire lecture is viewed, read that chapter and went on to take MCQ. Any MCQ missed went into the notebook and entirely missed concepts or very important ones, went into flashcards. Then, SIMS and finally, optional unlocked questions.

I did the lectures without reading. I also preferred to do a lecture section, then do the accompanying MCQs to help break up the lecture and keep my attention. I learn primarily from seeing things written, so going back and re-reading confusing topics really helped me.

    REG: 84
    BEC: 90
    AUD: 94

Hmm, for myself, I break my “study day” (usually weekends) into two parts. Morning is lecture where I listen with a pencil and paper and just write notes based on what I heard and read in the lecture. Generally after lecture I'll grab lunch and do something else for a bit then move on to MCQs. I'll do as many as I can writing the logic behind each on paper. This method is slow and methodical but can be sped up if need be.
