I take FAR on May 29th. I’m using Becker but I feel like it’s just so much material that I’m not going to be able to retain it all. I’ve only been averaging in the 60s on the MCQ but I’ve been reviewing them and understanding what I’ve been doing wrong. Is the % correct on MCQ with Becker a fair indication on how I’ll do on the exam. Will a 60% correct indicate that I’ll get around a 60 on the CPA?

    Hi,

I'm very happy to be able to respond to this post! I got my FAR score today (an 84!), but I was in the same boat as you. FAR was the first exam I decided to take, and I was overwhelmed by the amount of material. I used only Becker Online Courses to prep for the exam, and I did use a trial membership of Wiley to do their final simulated exams just for a little added practice. Overall, I was getting around the 70's on the Becker homeworks, sometimes more, sometimes less. And I didn't pass either of the Becker Final Exams (I got in the upper 60's on those).

So don't let the practice scores get you down! Everyone says that, and it's cliche, but it is totally true. Keep doing progress tests, know why you're getting things right/wrong, and good luck– if I can do it, you can do it!

I am also taking FAR on 5/29. I use Wiley Test Bank exclusively w/ the Wiley book. Right now I am getting 60s and 70s on the MC. I just started the sims and seem to be doing a little better on those. I will tell you that I used Wiley for my first 3 tests and ended up scoring 10 to 15 pts higher on the exam than I did on the test bank. I found the MC were harder on the test bank and the sims were adequate enough to prepare me. I'm hoping the same is holding true for FAR as I've been going through the test bank for a few weeks now and have a cumulative score of 72% to show for it.

Not sure how it is w/ Becker but I think maybe that is what a test prep software should do – beat you down so you are more than prepared for the exam.

    Good luck on 5/29.

    BEC - 5/2012 - 91
    AUD - 8/2012 - 89
    REG - 1/2013 - 90
    FAR - 5/2013 - 88

Ntw6817, I took my FAR Aug of 2012 using Becker. What I learned from using the review course is that use the homework questions to review the topics, have a feel of how the questions will be constructed and then pick out the reason why you are right or wrong.

I also got those 60s and 70s in the homework MCQs and SIMs but the most important is that you understood your mistakes. Then to measure your understanding, take about 3 or 4 sets – or more if you can – Progress Test of 30-35 MCQs per try. When you are hitting high 80s and 90s on progress tests, that's a good way to see how you are faring.

Also, when you try to answer the MCQs, you will know that you got the material if you know (1) what is the correct answer -not because you memorized the answer! but because you just know it is correct!!! and (2) if you know what made the other incorrect answer wrong.

Hope this helps. Go get those Becker progress tests to work. You will also see which parts of the materials you are weak on and you can concentrate on that. Good luck!

    FAR - 8/29/2012 - 79
    AUD - 10/6/2012 - 72 retake 4/5/2013 - 90
    REG - 11/26/2012 - 73 retake 5/31/2013 - 76!!! 🙂 Finally!!!
BEC - 1/26/2013 - 82 (passing is sweeter after youve experienced failure!)
