Need some help with FAR

I have swung and missed twice now on FAR (69 and 67) and I cant allow it to be a strike three. I am scheduled to take it again on November 11th.

I am using Becker to study. I put in the time I need…about 4-6 hours a day during the work week (depending on my schedule) and a minimum 8 hours on Saturday and Sunday. So that is a minimum 36 hrs a week. However, Saturdays and Sundays usually turn into 10-12 hour study days so I definitely get my time.

My problem is that I feel like I am studying and doing the same thing over and over when it hasn’t previously worked. I really do feel prepared, but obviously I have not been prepared enough.

My question to anyone else in this situation. Did you go back and study the weaknesses really hard and just reviewed everything else you felt string in? Or, did you go back and study everything?

A part of me feels like I need to go back and study everything again, because there is no way to know what will be on the exam (both mult choise and sims). But, I wanted to get some opinions.

Oh and one more thing…anyone have suggestions to stay focused during football season? I am finding it is much more difficult.

    Thanks,

    El Oso

Hi El Oso – you said “My problem is that I feel like I am studying and doing the same thing over and over when it hasn't previously worked. I really do feel prepared, but obviously I have not been prepared enough”.

I have felt the exact same way numerous times. However, your exam results are not in agreement with your assessment.

I've been in the same boat myself. I took FAR on 7/1 and scored 72 – argh – but it's the best I've done yet. The last time I took it last year – I scored 64% and 67%. I did something different to get the better score.

For myself – I know spending more time was key. I had to admit that I needed to invest the time to “get” the material.

This time around – I'm taking exam on 10/26 (hopefully last time!) – I feel like I'm doing many things differently:

    1. I've been rewriting my notes – exactly what Jeff on Another 71 says to do – BEFORE I attempt to answer any MCQ. I've been doing that for each section in Wiley where I've been below passing. I then do the MCQ for that section with my notes right next to me so I can have access to something I just wrote out. I also am writing out most of the question if I don't “get” the question in my attempt to better understand it. Gone are my days of just randomly guessing and memorizing test questions. I'm looking to understand the concept so I can apply my knowledge to other similar questions.

The items I'm doing differently are things I've learned from other Ninja's. Do a look around the site and see if you can gleam from other folks experiences as well.

Best wishes to you – we're all working hard to pass this thing. I know you can do it!

    Best of luck!

    Tony
