I failed FAR in October, and want to take the exam again in January before busy season. According to the report, I didnt do good on Financial Statement Accounts and Specific Transactions/Events. I’m using Becker at this point to review the material for the exam, so I have couple of questions that I need your inputs. Which chapters in Becker should I focus to prepare myself for the test again? How can I study to help me preparing better for the exam? Thank you very much for your help! Happy new year to all of you!

Hi anhle0322, do you mind me asking what your score was? I also failed FAR in November and now re-take is scheduled for February. I, like you, had the same issue. What do I focus on? I'm studying with Roger but essentially I decided to just start from scratch to build on my strong topics and work on my weak ones. So far I'm covering MCQs topic by topic and writing out my own flashcards on concepts that I feel like I need to know or little fact nuggets that I can't seem to remember. Also, every couple of days I'm doing a cumulative quiz of 30 mcqs on topics already covered so everything is fresh. Once I”m done with all that in the next couple of weeks I'll be pounding MCQs using NINJA since those are much harder than Roger and so I'll have a different test bank to use. During this time I also plan to re-write my notes, work on SIMS/JEs and flash cards, flash cards.

As I'm going through the topics I”m also not skipping anything and making sure I really understand a concept before moving on. My first go around I remember skipping things I didn't really understand and figured that I get to it in the review process…well that didn't work for me, as you can see. Hope that helps.

idk about Becker but Ninja does a good job of breaking out that category. Ninja classifies Financial Statement Accounts in the following categories:

A: Cash and Cash Equivalents (12)

    B: Receivables (34)

    C: Inventory (56)

D: Property, Plant, and Equipment (47)

    E: Investments (68)

F: Intangible Assets: Goodwill and Other (23)

G: Payables and Accrued Liabilities (34)

    H: Deferred Revenue (15)

    I: Long-Term Debt (Financial Liabilities) (68)

    J: Equity (45)

    K: Revenue Recognition (62)

    L: Costs and Expenses (48)

M: Compensation and Benefits (56) M: Compensation and Benefits (56)

    N: Income Taxes (51)

The numbers next to the topic are how many questions that Ninja offers in that area. Maybe worth it to try the ninja mcqs?

    A - 75
    B - 78 God is good.
    F - 77 Answered prayers.
    R - 84! Done!!

Paperwork sent - waiting for license!!
Still on a cloud and in shock. Through God, all things will happen.

I study for any retake as if it is a first attempt. I don't focus on my score report that much and I raised my score 20 and 18 points on the two retakes I did. I read each chapter of the book and answered the corresponding book MCQ then hit up the Wiley (AUD) and Ninja (REG) test banks pretty hard. For AUD I listened to Ninja Audio and rewrote the Ninja Notes before the test. If you create a retake study plan strictly by what you didn't pass on the first round then you may make your strong areas weak ones next time.

CPA Exam - Finally DONE (November 2014)
    BEC (08/10/13) 80
    AUD (08/24/13) 65 (11/13/13) 85
    FAR (04/12/14) 81
    REG (07/19/14) 69 (11/29/14) 87!!
