Need advice asap – FAR or BEC

Situation: taking FAR @ end of May, on F2 in Becker with about five weeks left to study. Original plan was to take BEC and take FAR sometime in July. Switched due to someone’s advice to get FAR out of the way. However, don’t want to sit just to take the exam since as I’ve learned by now restudying is much worse than studying the first time around. I think it may be possible with the five weeks, but not sure I want to make that bet, ie. bet that I can get through the material on time with sufficient review time. That said, might be better condensed in time to retain more info for the exam.

The May 31 date is still available for BEC but I probably need to make the change asap. Either scenario might not work out, but want to make the best decision for now. Any advice? (working full time)

That is a tough decision to make. FAR has so much material and, at least for me, BEC was so foreign. Ask yourself which one do you feel the most comfortable with and go for it. Good Luck and I sincerely hope you pass!

Kricket thanks. Can't really determine what I'm more comfortable with. Been out of school for a while so I'm treating it all as new material, and so I'm considering the amount of material/study time more than content. Waiting for REG score doesn't help the stress level as it's a possible factor in planning later on (I hope that doesn't happen but didn't have a good feeling about REG the 2nd time).

I vote BEC:). Granted, I haven't taken either, but judging by the amount of material in both sections, BEC might be a better option.

For what it's worth, I got FAR out of the way and ended up losing it. Now I'm sweating out two scores, REG and FAR. Everyone is different so go with your own instinct. Which ever one you decide on, you need to make your study schedule and stick to it. I would make a schedule and then, as I liked to say, “Life got in the way”. Looking back on it, I had a lot of really stupid reasons for not studying, hence the number of scores in the signature below 75. Last March, JoMarie, was my rock. Every night we would post on facebook “Are we studying tonight?” Then we would periodically check in with each other. It was great having someone to keep me accountable.

Thanks! Will sleep on it and decide. I should have stuck to my original schedule and I wouldn't be doubting myself now. Gotta say I learn something new about this exam every day, and I don't mean the material itself.

How stressful is your day job? You are probably going to need to put in 30 hours a week to have a decent chance against FAR in 6 weeks. BEC doesn't have nearly as much information, and if you were an econ or finance minor/major you should be able to almost skip an entire section in Becker.

    Reg 77 (Aug 11)
    Aud 80 (Nov 11)
    BEC 79 (Jan 12)
    FAR 80 (April 12)

Thanks for all advice. Job is doable with studying, but I can only get in 3 to 4 good hours a night. Also realized I have a full-time firm training coming up so will lose an entire Sunday + two week nights. I don't have significant issues making time for studying as I've cut out everything other than my job, but FAR just doesn't seem realistic.

Tip for rescheduling, apparently you can only reschedule not cancel and reschedule. Grrrr calling prometric tomorrow but it seems like I will have to reapply and pay again. This is just going great.

Ok, just in case someone needs this info, called prometric today and even though I canceled I can just schedule another appointment. Seems to be working, ie. the system accepts the section id and name, so maybe it had to process in the system. uff…

I took bec in february and am studying for far now. Thats why i say take bec, you would be hard pressed to get through far in time. I used becker.

BEC it is, rescheduled and it feels like the right move. Thanks for advice. Eliz, also using Becker. Will supplement with Wiley questions time permitting.
