Hi there
Well, I’m down to my last exam. FAR has been a serious beast and I’ve had to retake multiple times.
67,70,71, 73, 73. I’m having my retake on the 11th. I used Becker and Ninja in prior takes. This take I used Surgent.

What are your thoughts on mock exams- are they helpful?

The last time I took FAR was in November and SIMS were 50%. Were there any other changes or format changes?

Becker mock exams were helpful in identifying where I needed to work and improve on before I took the real exam. They are also good for practicing additional MCQs that are not recycled from the MCQs you see in Progress Tests. Don't let the scores you get from these mock exams discourage you because they are not using the same grading system as the real exam does, and exam candidates tend to worse on the mock exams than the real deal.

I would say that the Mock exam is only helpful to give you a good insight on how the exam works. Since you've already taken the exam numerous times, I would suggest that you should spend your time focusing on drilling MCQs for weaker areas. I guess you could skip the MCQ portion of the mock exam and just do the sims?

Lurker- a 98 on FAR? HOLY AWESOME!

I got Surgent because i think i memorized a lot of NINJA. Surgent has some great DRS that hurt my head. I rewrote my notes and plan to hammer out MCQ, SIMS and notes for the last few days. I dont think think the actual exam changed? There is no excel or anything.

@iamstrong – I just wanted to pop on to say that after two fails with Wiley/Ninja, Surgent was the one that put me over the edge for FAR. I focused on SIMS and did all of theirs at least once, some more, and I think it was very helpful. I took one mock, only because they recommended it, but definitely not mandatory. I really liked Surgent for FAR.

I just did my mock exam for FAR using WileyCPA and it was extremely helpful. I realized which questions make me clinch and what I need to practice on. It also helped me gauge my timing. I am now reviewing questions I got wrong. I am not focusing on the score I got because I know it is not reflective of the real exam, but I did score a 68.

I used Surgent for all my studying and didn’t really feel like the mock exam added much value. I focused more on getting through all the MCQs and as many of the simulations as possible. Surgent says that if you have an 80% trending score that they have never had anyone fail. This was true for me, as I failed one test and it was the only one I took without having an 80+% trending.

I would definitely suggest the AICPA practice exam, but I wouldn’t worry too much of you don’t do mock exams.

I agree with taking the sample exam on the aicpa website, especially the Sims! I've had at least 1 or 2 Sims that were nearly identical to the Sims on the sample exams. It also gives you good practice so you can anticipate what the Sims will look like and the content.
