Missing out

    I was thinking this morning about how much we, as CPA candidates, miss out on because of these stinking tests!!

    The Texans are my #2 team for football and they made it to playoffs for the first time which is super exciting! I am really upset though because I don’t get to watch the game because I have to study 🙁 I have my FAR test 1/14 and have a lot left to do and learn and can’t afford the time off. I have caught myself blaming this test even though the real truth is that I got behind schedule so it is my own fault.

    Another thing I miss doing it going to Sunday brunch and happy hours and taking my precious pup to the dog park.

    What are the small things that yall miss?

    I missed out on a LOT of things especially as a mom of 2 kids, but that said, I reminded myself that once the exams and studying were over we would get to enjoy things that we otherwise wouldn't have had the opportunity to enjoy (better vacations, more family outings, bigger birthday parties) than if mom didn't get her CPA in the first place. The benefits far outweigh the sacrifices in the long run 🙂

    Pirates, huh? I live on the North Side of Pittsburgh near the stadiums. I definitely love walking over in the summer and catching evening games.

    I most definitely miss fitting into my own clothes. I put on a grand total of 20 lbs since starting the CPA journey. Now that I'm done, my goal is to lose the CPA weight+10lbs.

    During my studies, I gave up my entire summer and fall. Didn't celebrate my boyfriend's or my birthdays and, worst of all, we didn't celebrate out 5 year anniversary because the anniversary was Aug 23 and I was taking BEC on Aug 31. Of course, there was a ton of TV, sports, and books that went on hold as well.

    Just try to keep in mind that there is an end to this mess and you'll appreciate the things you're missing that much more when the dust settles. I can't even begin to tell you how much pleasure I derive from reading a good non-accounting book now!

    I have a running list of all the books I want to read when I am through with this dang thing!! If all goes as planned it will be before summer so I can start working out and reading and learn spanish again!

    @KasiaS

    What books are you into? My list consists of Hunger Games, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series, The Help and so many more!

    @akb9874, I think you're one of my CPA soulmates! I'm getting back to all of those things.

    I got back on track with Weight Watchers as of the start of the year and am dusting off my Zumba DVDs. I also fired up Rosetta Stone to get back to Spanish! Oh and my list of books is the same as yours, only I haven't read the Help yet. I'm reading Angels & Deamons now and plan on reading the Uglies series next.

    @CPATerminator

    I use to be quiet good at spanish back in college and really enjoyed going to Mexico and C.A. and getting to enjoy more of the culture. There are several languages I plan on learning after Spanish but they say if you get fluent in one the rest are a little easier. I want to learn french, portugese and german too. I travel for work and I think that if I know more languages I will be more marketable.

    @KasiaS

    I have never heard of the Uglies series but I googled it and it looks super interesting!. You will have to let me know how it is!! Ya my sister has Rosetta Stone for Spanish and we are going to start on it over the summer together. I like Angels and Demons but I don't feel it is as good as Da Vinci Code. After I pass, I am buying myself an IPad to bring with me on all my trips and I plan on loading it with books and movies! Especially when I have to travel to China and Singapore!!

    I'm also from Pittsburgh taking the CPA exam. You didn't miss much with the Pirates to be honest haha. But I am re-taking Audit next week as well, but I will definitely make sure to take time to see the Steelers beat Tebow.

    Haha maybe I should be more specific in saying the crazy Gator fans. I love American football 🙂 Soccer/football is interesting if you are at the game, I don't care to watch as much on the TV. I live about 2 blocks from the new Dynamo stadium here in Houston. Going to be super fun but very crowded around this area come next season!

    I'm Pittsburgh born and bred. I even went to Pitt for all of my schooling (as did my parents…you get the picture). We're brought up to love the Steelers from the very day we're born. My friend had a baby last year on super bowl sunday and the hospital wrapped him in a terrible towel.

    I loved watching the Pirates this past year. It was by far their best season in what seems like forever. I know that's not saying much but it was still cool to go to games and actually have people in the stands (at least for a while).
