Memory Refresh in FAR – How do you revise (retain) previous chapters in FAR?

    Hi!

I am preparing for the FAR exam and using Becker, I keep trying to just plough through one module after another – but feel like I keep forgetting the previous chapters and concepts as I keep going forward. Does any one have a method to revise those chapters without losing out on regular study time for current chapters.

Like should I keep a few hours weekly to go over these old chapters or spend an hour a day going over the older chapters to refresh my memory?

I bought the Becker flash cards and supplemented with my own for the more complicated topics. Also, I did practice tests at the end of each chapter to mix the MCQs for previous sections.

I use Beckers flash cards plus the ones I made myself. I have about 90 flash cards per chapter. That is how i was able to pass REG and FAR on my first attempt.

    FAR-84
    AUD-
    REG-
    BEC-

Thanks guys! flashcards are a great idea – I shall try and see where I can get some for cheap.

Please could you tell me how you manage to fit this into your study schedule , do you do it once a week or everyday do you do it for an hour. I am struggling to find time in my regular study schedule to fit this in.

I found flashcards on eBay for half the price of the Becker website. They were really good for FAR since there is tons of material, but not very deep for each topic. I used my flashcards when I was away from my study materials (at work, in the car, etc.) The entire stack of cards can be overwhelming, so I separated them into each FAR section. I put the cards I easily knew aside and focused on the material that I had trouble with. It gave me a sense of accomplishment as the ‘I know this' pile grew and then I could carry the smaller problem stack around with me.

Another note: I made my own flashcards for big topics like the ‘car in big' mnemonic for consolidations. There was something about writing all those details on one card that simplified the topic for me and made it stick in my memory.

As for the practice tests, I set them up for 20 or 30 MCQs at a time and did them periodically during the week. I was very focused on making it through the videos, all MCQs, and most of the simulations for each chapter. Once I finished all ten sections, then I spent more time reviewing.

    Good luck!

Don't skip out on your Progress Tests. They're very important for keeping past information relevant.

    FAR: 50, 76!
REG: 74... (ouch baby, very ouch), 76!
    AUD: 65, 91!?
    BEC: 80! Aaaand doneskies!

    May 2012 to August 2013. Can't believe it's over.

I'm using Wiley book, WTB, and Wiley Focus Notes/flash cards (& Ninja Audio for FAR)

When I passed BEC, I made myself read through at least one module's worth of Wiley's Focus Notes every night before I went to bed. It would usually only take 5 to 15 minutes to get through one section. And it really seemed to help with retention when I got through with the book and started trying to review with a day or so left before my exam.

I did not use this strategy with REG, and as you can see below, I came up a tad short…Really wish I would have stuck with that plan for REG.

Also I'm using the Ninja Audio for FAR and just listening to it on my 10 min commute to work and back everyday. The ninja audio is absolutely perfect for refreshing topics you've already covered in short concise bursts.
