MCQ vs SIMS

    Hi, guys-I have passed 3 of these, but FAR prep seems to be a different animal. I am 8 days out. Just focusing on the small details I was weak on in my progress tests/mock exams/Ninja test bank. I have always done all of Becker SIMS and for this one I hope to get to the list on another thread for SIMS to review as well, even though it seems overwhelming and right now I am trying to redo all DRS and JE SIMS in Becker and do a bunch in Ninja (I have done all in Ninja multiple time in the past). I have a whole weekend (give or take) to study but want to also make sure I get plenty of MCQ practice to hone in on the details I might be weak on. I was thinking in the interest of time maybe look at Skills Practice in Becker as well for the ones that have JE, or statement prep type Skills Practice? How much should I focus on SIMS vs. MCQ? In REG, I found SIM practice didn’t help….. But it did for AUD.

    Try to do random sets of 66 ninja mcq and time yourself to mimic the exam every day. Review notes everyday and on the day before the exam (no new problems on that day).

    Review 66 ninja mcq random sets feedback and write down stuff you keep on getting wrong and learn it.

    Drill into especially weak areas with additional MCQ.

    Focus on the SIMS first in that blueprint thread. Many have said that it helped them on exam day. You can do 7 to 8 a day and finish everything.

    Do the AICPA practice exam online close to your exam date.

    I don't have a pass under my signature yet, but doing these things helped me feel a lot better for my most recent retake.

    Any tips for REG? Did you pass it in q3? I'm just going through Becker right now and wondering if I need Ninja too.

    BEC = 72 (6/08/16)
    FAR = ?
    REG = ?
    AUD = ?

    I've been hammering some SIMS.
    The MCQ's I am doing consistently above passing, but I have heard nothing really prepares you for the SIMS so I am trying to practice them on my weaker areas so at least I can try to be somewhat prepared.
    A week to 5 days out I was focused on the MCQ's and trying to do 100+ a day. I think I did somewhere around 600 in Gleim, so switched over to SIMS review and practice.
    Spend this morning working over the PBO and pension videos and SIMS in both Roger and Gleim.
    Going to revisit the AICPA exam, and skim through the book to freshen up on the little details that might catch me tomorrow, like due dates of quarterly/annual filings etc.

    So to answer your questions. You have 8 days… do both.
    Some MCQ's until your eyes and brain hurt, and then swap to reviewing SIMS and JE's.

    @Lentilcounter-thank you!
    REG-oh, how I hated studying for it:) LOL! Yes, I took it in July….I think like no other exam, for REG, you need to know the concepts in order to complete the SIMS. I think I had 5 DRS which weren't difficult once you were able to sift through the mutliple documents, but man did it test your detail knowledge of everything. I think Ninja is needed always! I have never skipped on Ninja. REG testbank is easier to get through I think because there isn't as much math as FAR…. Don't underestimate estate taxation is all I am going to say. Also, don't get hung up on phase outs and limits. Other than itemized deductions, those aren't really tested.

    Well, I focused all my attention on F4 SIMS yesterday, did great and then went on to score a 67 on a progress test in Becker in F5…. So going back to MCQ and will try to hammer out as many of these as possible. I find that if I focus on each section individually, I forget the others too much. Have to keep a mix going. I will go back to SIMS as well and review JEs for leases, pensions and bonds… Next Friday can't come soon enough!
