Help!!! I think I’m losing motivation to study. Everytime, I come home from work and look at the Wiley Book in front of me, it makes me wanna cringe. Since busy season started, my work hours are crazy and it takes a lot of motivation to buckle down and do as many MCQ’s as i can or even review. What should i do? I usually devote my Sunday’s to studying, since I’m working Saturday’s too. I need a little push, so i can study a little everyday. I’m studying for FAR and will be taking it on Feb 19th.

I think we all go through that witht his exam. If I were you I would study in small increments. 30 min here, 45 min there. Before you know it, it has added up. What I did was I stopped studying at my dinning room table. Felt to much like studying and doing that everyday was driving me crazy. So I started studying on lunch break, studying in front of the tv, reading on my couch. Just made it feel less like studying which helped me out a lot.

Thanks Haze! I'll try to do that during my train ride to work. Or whenever i can spare a half hour here and there.

Do you have any study tips for me Haze? I really want to get this exam out of the way. It's my first time and I just want to get through this.

Here is what I do. I buy the material and I go through all of the lectures. I then go back through and work all the problems and review little notes that I have taken. I do this over and over until I can go through all of the material (problems) in 3 or 4 days. Once I can do that I feel ready and I schedule to take the exam 2 days later while everything is fresh in my mind. It has worked twice for me so far. I never schedule 2 and 3 months out like some people. I don't want to peak to early and then have to wait 3 weeks before the exam

My motivation was always the more I study now, the less I'll have to study later.

My motivation are those BIG 3 letters that I will have beside my name soon : D. I'm probably weird, but I'm always thinking about this exam and what it will mean in the future, 24/7. Cant wait for it to be over, though. Sacrifice and dedication is something all CPAs have in common, after this harsh process. From my experience, people that say things like: “I might just go ahead and be a CPA, or “It would be nice to be a CPA” or “I want to be a CPA”, those never became a CPA. Why is that? Because this is something you have to REALLY DREAM about in order to get. If I only “wanted to be a CPA” I would had given up a long time ago. All this time, I have seen people going to parties and the beach, but im still at home with Peter Olinto and my flashcards. I accepted the challenge before I started studying and I knew my life wouldn't be the same afterwards and it isn't. If we all really want it and sacrifice, we should all be CPAs in the future.

Wake up early and study. You're most energized and have the least amount of distractions. And you won't feel so guilty when you come home too tired from work to study. And yes, study in random increments here and there, on the train, waiting for a friend, waiting at the doctor's office. It's like learning a language – you just constantly need to be bombarded at random intervals.

    I really can't pass again!

    @ whitesoxfancpa….Thank you! I appreciate it

@herbert7890- You're absolutely right. The CPA does require dedication and sacrifice, which I am ready to make. I don't go out partying or socialize in any way, because i understand that the CPA is the most important exam of my life. With that said, busy season sucks all the energy out of me and I try my best to review when I am most energized and able to review information. I try to do it in intervals, so I make the most use of my free time. Usually, I study during my train rides to and from work. Also, I study a half hour before I go to bed and review as much as possible. Thank you so much for your advice!

@limey- I'll try my very best to walk up earlier in the morning and squeeze in some study time. As for intervals, I try to study or review during my train ride to and from work, so when i get home I don't have to study as much and do a final review of the material before i go to bed.

sushtil, try not to take the exam too seriously. I think pople get all wound up and let the pressure of the test crack them on test day. Relax….I am usually excited on test day not because I enjoy test but because I have put in a lot of work and I think it will pay off. Also because its one step closer to it being over. I take REG tomorrow and my motivation is I will be 3/4 done if successful. I've seen whitesoxcpa on here for a while and he's gotten through it. Gives me motivation to do the same.
