Hello, I am looking for an entry level accounting position and I was wondering if anyone can help me. I live in Orlando Florida. I am currently reviewing for the AUD section. I passed FIN and waiting for my BEC score. I need to find an accounting job working under a license CPA to obtained the one year work experience needed to get my license. My issue is that I do not have any accounting experience which made it difficult to find a job. My experience is mostly in a Brokerage firms working in the operation department.

I am in the same situation you are in only I am in North Carolina. Eventhough the situation sucks it is good to see that I am not the only person going through this.

    Hi,

Same situation here, too. I passed all sections in late March and started looking for an entry level accounting position in top 100 public accounting firms in April. I either sent out my resumes by email or applied through company websites. I have no accounting experience, either.

Most of responses I received so far are “No openings”. For some of positions that I applied online, I was not selected. So, not good so far. And it looks like most firms already hired people for this year by February or March. I felt like I was late.

Studying for the exam was hard but finding a job is harder to me.

Anyway, I will keep trying. Now I am looking for jobs anywhere….

We will find something soon! Good luck to you!

keep_studying, you can also get your experience by working under a cpa in a fortune 500 company or other…not necessarily a public accounting firm..

    BEC=77, FAR=78, REG=73,74,80, AUD=70,69, 84 DONE!

My advice is to go to as many accounting job fairs as you can. even if you graduated from school a while ago, you school's career resource department will still rpobably help find some (it may even host some). Also, check out your state board of accountancy's website for upcomming career fairs and networking events. I was able to get two job a year and a half ago using this strategy. Also, at least in the Boston area, it seems like CPA firm recruiting season is almost exclusively in September and October. So try and get a professionally done resume and hone your interviewing skills by then!

    Good Luck!

    FAR-87; AUD-89; BEC-85; BEC-84
    DONE!

^^ PursuitCPA, you really need to stop. I can absolutely see why you are unemployed. Companies don't attend job fairs to not hire anybody. Even if they'll hire less than the past, they'll still hire some. And with your shitty attitude (which is more transparent than you think), no one is going to hire you because no one will want to work with you. You really seem to want someone to hand you a job, since you refuse to utilize professional job fairs, university recruiting, individual recruiters, placement firms, etc. Nothing is helping you because you won't let anybody help you. People here give you advice, and you throw it back in their faces and tell them that their suggestions are useless. You close the door to all possible job search avenues noted above, so you can't even let yourself get lucky. Especially when the job market is this tough, you need some good fortune to land something. How exactly do you plan to get a job then, and what kind of great advice would you like to provide to others?

Anyway, feel free to continue to bring yourself down. Just stop continuously discouraging others from trying methods that have worked for many of us, but haven't worked for you. I've had a much more helpful tone in the past with you, but I've given up. So anyone out there, unless you want to end up like PursuitCPA and carry around a bitter attitude while you attack the already daunting task of finding a job, don't listen to his advice or what he says.

I agree with DWADECPA. Job fairs don't give you a job on the spot. But although it's like a cattle call, it helps you get to know more about the company and when they interview you why X company you can answer based on the employee's experience. You need to do everything: job fair, career center, online, network. Use every available tool.

    HTH.

Actually, PursuitCPA has been brutally honest……..there just aren't enough jobs going around. And the truth is that professional job fairs, university recruiting, individual recruiters, placement firms and the like yield statistically low returns…but shouldn't be ignored and just taken at face value for what they are: low yield. Someone else posted here a while ago that you need to be more creative in job search and NOT be negative at all….

Pursuit, it's not your message, it's just the delivery….lol

Thanks, I can only go by Personal observation. I saw only half the big firms show up. I'm not really that negative just telling how it is.

I am in the same boat as all of you. I am about to finish my master degree in accounting and I have already passed FAR and waiting on BEC, REG, AUD. I don't know how many recruiters will read this but I am looking to stay in the northwest (WA, ID, MT, CO). Job fairs are the best way to go. Unfortunately this year the economy sucks. Most of the recruiters at the job fair last fall snatched up the graduates who were about to finish the grad program and had a couple sections under their belts. This summer I am going to finish grad school, the exam, and at that point, I think I will be pretty attractive to firms (I hope so). The best thing you can do is finish the exam and get your name out there.

At this point, I have not been limiting myself to just the big 4 or any other firm. I have also opened up to other areas where I can gain experience from a CPA. Thank you all for the advice. I trying to stay positive and hang in there. Hopefully I will land something soon.
