Hi guys! what do you guys think about colleges/universities that offer CPA review classes compared to the typical CPA courses that are offered online (Becker, Roger, Yaeger, Gleim, CPAexcel, and others that I’m not too familiar with)??

I recently found out that a local accredited business school is offering the review course (it is a six month process with couple of weeks of breaks between each part to actually review and sit for the exam). I read enough about it and I’m thinking of registering. My concern is the six month process deal. I graduated with my BA over 5 years (so subject material is not fresh in my mind), I work about 55-60 hours per week, and I’m the type of person that takes a long time to grasp information that the average person (I always felt that I used to take a long time to study for anything when I was in college)

Because it’s a six month deal, it’s going to be intense studying which I’m willing to do, I just don’t know if its enough with my work schedule vs. when I do the online lectures, I can study on my own time and wouldn’t need to rush.

I have already used Yaeger for two parts and did not pass which is why I’m seeking something different that can help me. I actually want to try an actual instructor to ask questions during lectures if I don’t understand something.

I guess my question is 6 months enough, Have anyone else tried this with hectic work schedule

I don't know about the live lectures because I've never done one of them. It may help you and it may not. You might want to find out how you learn best by taking a learning style inventory. I have a lot of friends who are teachers and they recommended this site. I found out that I learn better by listening to something over and over. Maybe you don't grasp things slower than others it just that you have been going about it in the wrong way. It's worth a shot and it's free.

    Good Luck!

I relate to your learning style. I believe it takes me longer to grasp things than other people too, so studying at a fast pace is not good for me.

However, I would LOVE it if I could do this course through live classes vs. videos and self study. (I'm using Becker and I know they have the live class option, but it's not the same as a true classroom style learning because all you do in the Becker live classes is watch the same videos that I'm watching at home).

Sooooooo, my suggestion is that since you already have the Yaeger material and have gone through 2 sections already, you're already at an advantage going into the live classes regarding those 2 sections. So, I'm guessing that you can handle the faster pace on that material.

Maybe you can work through the other 2 sections of yaeger on your own before the live classes start, so you can work at a faster pace on those topics also.

I definitely think the live classes are worth a try. If I had that option, I would definitely do it.

I understand your concern about the fast-pace of the classes, but I think an advantage of the live classes is that it actually helps you go through everything faster than you would on your own anyway.

Do as much as you can on your own before the classes begin with the Yaeger program that you already own, then take advantage of the support that the classes offer.

Sounds like a good combination to me.

Yeah, the Roger courses I took were essentially going to the local state school and watching the videos on a projector for 8 hours. That sounds lame, but it really worked for me. I really think what was important for how I learn was that I HAD to go somewhere and I was forced to sit and watch the lectures. I missed a couple of lectures and had to watch them online and it literally took two weeks for me to watch everything because I just put it off and watched 20 minutes here and there. The live lectures have virtues beyond the content.
