I just finished with Regulations and I am not sure what is fair game to say but the test was totally different than what I expected. The level of details on some questions as well as the subject matter completely thru me off. The things I didn’t feel would be substantial on the test seemed like every other question and the subjects I was particulary strong in were not or they were being asked with details I didn’t expect. I knew REG was going to be an issue. I feel like I just wasted 2 months of my life studying.

I had a similar experience where I knew some of the MC were difficult but felt pretty good about them, but as for my SIM, I had no idea.

Does anyone think that since we all seem to have thought the SIMS were kind of crazy that they could be trying to gauge the new SIMS? With the new SIMS being 40% I am concerned that even if i got 100 on MC that the SIM could cause me to fail.

    CPAJourney03,

My issue with the SIMS was trying to understand what exactly was wanted. I didn't get it. I think I may have had a clue but I am not sure. All in all the MCQ didn't seem super complexed, was just hard to recall the material on some of it. The mox of problems were not at all how I imagined. I got far more business law questions than I thought I would. I a lot of things that were 1 little sentence out of a topic. I'd know 90% of the topic and get asked a question about 1 sentence in the wiley book that I glossed over. It really sucked!!

On my SIMS there were some topics that were one sentence in my Becker book as well…I am assuming that most people felt similar and hoping that this means that we can still pass, but who knows!

Two of my SIMS were on a topic which 2 different reviews I was using (Bisk 2010 and Wiley 2011) had only one sim for and they were the same simulation exactly for both reviews. They're obviously incoporating new format and questions into the exam and are probably considering this especially for us 2011 guinea pigs. I believe there will be a curve which explains the reasoning of waiting to grade until they have all scores.

Yea I agree and hope you are right about the curve, but it would make complete sense since we are the 2011 guinea pigs!

I just got out of REG and it was a doozy! I just started taking sections in this 2011 test period so I don't have anything to compare to 2010 and prior but after taking AUD last week, I feel less confident.

The first testlet was pretty hard but then the last two seemed to really increase my confidence. I don't know if I was just more confident in the concepts or if I just did that bad on the first testlet. The questions in the last two testlets seem to be more complex as far as calculations but I didn't question myself as much as I did in the first testlet.

Then came the simulations…wow!! They didn't catch me off guard but four of the six were on two of my weakest subjects. 🙁 I feel pretty confident on the first one and the research but I barely had time to finish the other four. I finished all of them with only a minute and half left. I wish I had given my self more time on the simulations to check the literature on those weaker subjects.

Oh well…now I need to focus on my last two sections. I just glad I'm the not the only one who walked out of REG with my head swimming.

    AUD – 1/24/11

    REG – 1/31/11

    BEC – 2/18/11

    REG – 2/26/11

    AUD: 1/24/11 - 85
    REG: 1/31/11 - 87
    BEC: 2/18/11 - 73; 5/9/11 - 77 (NTS 451)
    FAR: 2/26/11 - 70; 4/28/11 -81 (NTS 451)

Thanks for posting! REG is going to be my first later this spring. Your posts (especially you Mrs. 300 ) provide added incentive to study harder. In a way i am glad i am seeing some of this material for the first time in my review as opposed to unlearning some of this material. Best wishes to y'all.

I just took REG today and also felt that it was brutal. I prepared for this using the Wiley book which worked great for me for AUD and BEC. The problem was that certain areas were emphasized on the exam but not so much in the book.

I have never walked away from an exam before thinking that I did so poorly. I'm just going to assume that I will need to retake this and hold out a little hope that there is a minute chance I passed.

The level of specifity required on the exam surprised me the most.

I have to agree….REG was awful. I always hate exam day. Obviously, the exam itself is awful, but the aftermath is terrible, too. Because I always leave feeling like I know absolutely nothing and that I just wasted 2 months of my life studying. I've passed FAR & AUD and felt that way leaving the room, but this one was tough. I don't felt like my testlets got harder as I went along. I was also frustrated because I would be reading a question about X topic, and I'd think, “YES! I know X topic backwards & forwards” and start running through all the rules and concepts in my head, and then I get to the question, and it asks me that 1 thing about X topic that I don't know at all. Or worse, that one thing about X topic that I didn't even know existed. And then the final blow to my confidence was when my research question was on a topic that I had a MCQ on, and in doing the research, I stumbled across the answer to a MCQ…and I got it wrong. And I also had a hard time with some of the sims in not knowing what exactly they were asking. So I felt like it was a shot in the dark. Sooo….I guess I'll see in March. Now…on to BEC. At least there aren't any sims in BEC…..

@Liz317 – Also took REG today. It's hard to explain the feeling. I felt prepared going in and terrible leaving the test center. My MCQ's didn't get more difficult either and the SIMS looked good by the time I got there!! We'll all hope for the best in March. Good Luck.

    Liz317,

I showed my girlfriend your post and she was like “wow, that is the EXACT same thing you said after the test”! I swear I would know atleast 90% of a subject and would get asked questions on the 10% I didn't know or was unsure about. The SIMS were hard to understand. I walked out of the test feeling awful and had a cookie binge. I felt like I wasted 2 months of studying……these exams are tough!

I, too, took Reg and walked about feeling completely lost. My REG score for the last window in 2010 was a 70 and when I retook it in February 2011 I got a 57. Questions were crazy detailed. 🙁 Pretty much will be reading the book front to back as many times as I can for the next go round.

    Audit - 74, 74, 75, Lost Credit, 87(retake)
    BEC - 65, 70, 76
    FAR - 48, 66, 72, 76
    REG - 65, 70, 57, 69, 70, 71, 77
