Just took Regulations

I just finished with Regulations and I am not sure what is fair game to say but the test was totally different than what I expected. The level of details on some questions as well as the subject matter completely thru me off. The things I didn’t feel would be substantial on the test seemed like every other question and the subjects I was particulary strong in were not or they were being asked with details I didn’t expect. I knew REG was going to be an issue. I feel like I just wasted 2 months of my life studying.

Wow, you really seem bummed out. I don't think anyone comes out of REG thinking they aced it. Keep your head up, you never know. Did your testlets get progressively get harder? I hear that's a good sign. Were you able to finish the task based sims? Maybe the questions you had issues with were pre test Q's.

A couple that I know I missed def weren't pre test questions. I did finish all the sims except 1 I wasn't familar on. The sims were set up funny too. Not too easy to deal with at all. I'm not sure if the testlets got harder to be honest. 2nd testlest seemed like it had slightly harder questions but I'm not sure.

I hope you passed, HazeEastwood. Now im a bit scared of this exam (more than I already was). Maybe your testlets became harder, in which case is good for your score. : )

Thanks herbert. To be honest the questions weren't that hard, just things that I wasn't expecting. Its just a bunch to remember. I'm really bummed out about the test. Does audit require as much memorization?

I just got out of my REG exam and it was a heartbreaker for me. Multiple choices were in line with my review material and my last test went extremely well, but 2 of the new “short” simulations were just brutal. I have all 3 parts passed and I just can't seem to pass REG this was my third attempt. My audit section expires in June I don't know what more I can do. I got the one simulation topic I feared the most. I have no idea what review to do anymore. I have used about 3 of them so far and not one can get me over the hill with REG.

Sorry to hear that Mike. I took FAR and to ne it was easier than reg because with FAFR u just needed to know a bunch of concepts, REG…you have to remember a bunch of minute details. Questions were.t hard i just couldnt recall some of ot. Or i recalled after i left the exam. I think its really the luck of the draw

    @ HazeEastwood

Indeed, Audit requires a lot of memorization. For audit I followed Florida Candidate's advice and memorized all Becker Flashcards and it worked. I also read all Becker chapters before doing any MCQs for Audit to get a better sense of the material.

Herbert, but is it as much memorization as REG?

For Audit you memorize concepts, not rules and exceptions, which makes it easier to study compared to REG. For example, you will have to memorize the placement of certain items in the standard auditor's reports or the 10 auditing standards (TIP PIE ACDO). Audit has a lot of useful mnemonics, unlike REG.

Yeah, Auditing appears to be more like FAR. I can remember as many concepts as they give but REG has so many exceptions and thresholds that all sound a like they start to run together. But some of the questions I had on the exam I looked up and I appear to have gotten them right so maybe I wasn't doing as bad as I thought

@Mike , what review program did you use? Reg has me all in loops. Im using Yaeger for it and can not get a handle on the tax for the life of me. I used Becker for the other parts with a Becker/Yaeger hybrid for BEC. With becker i would watch 2 lectures on the weekend and then do MCQ all week long and it was working great. now I cant figure out an optimum strategy for yaeger. But, I fear that i'm going to meet my match with reg on Feb 28.

I took REG yesterday. Wow is all I have to say. I do not mean to scare anyone – but I have been working for a Big 4 firm in tax for 6.5 years, I'm an enrolled agent finally going for my CPA to make Senior Manager AND I prepared for this test! I was really thrown off guard. The MC were difficult – but difficult in the way that I expected. I knew some of them would throw me off. The simulations were absolutely horrible. To be honest, I don't know if they were hard, or if I just didn't know what they were asking. I couldn't figure out what boxes went with what question and it was really confusing to me. I did all the Becker simulations, final exams, etc. and they were nothing like them! I was so frustrated leaving the exam. Worst of all, I STILL have no idea what the answers to the SIMS are! I looked up the topics in my book and nothing!

    REG - 80 (Becker only)
    BEC - 76 (Becker only)
    AUD - 71, 76 (Becker only)
FAR - 65, 74, 81! (Becker, Wiley Test Bank, Ninja notes & Audio)

    CPA Class of 2012 🙂

@ Mrs 300- I had that exact same experience with one tab of my REG SIM! No idea what to do and went home and looked it up in my study material and still not sure if I did it correctly or not. my guess is no since I'm so unsure 🙂 I even had 30 minutes left on my exam so I spent that time on the research tab researching that topic. Still nothing. Other than that though, I felt like REG was ok. Hard, but ok.

Now I'm on to AUD which is boring me to sleep.

    @Drust1985

I passed my first three parts using Philadelphia CPA review which is a local live instruction course. It also supplements Bisk Software which is really good. I also supplemented those two with the Wiley textbook and software. I really recommend the Wiley as a supplement because the questions are usually more difficult. The text is great as well. I just downloaded Gleim last night so this is my fourth review. At this point I am trying anything and everything to get past REG. For all I know I could've passed my exam, but I am not taking any chances of letting up and forgetting anything so I'm going to keep on studying until I get the results. I only have one more shot and I lose everything.
