Hey all,

I just took my first FAR for the first time. I am so confused about it. All three testlets were fairly easy. I was able to finish all 3 in about 1.5 hours. And then came the horrible part of the exam! The sims!! I know I seriously messed up almost all of them. Until I saw my sims I thought I was going to pass this the first time. Now I am not sure what will happen. What do you guys think? Any thoughts would help.

Hey Maaneet,

I felt similarly when I took FAR. Although, it took me 2.5 hours to get through the multiple choice questions, and my second and third testlets were definitely far more difficult than my first. Still, the simulations were awful. I left one completely blank. There was another that required journal entries and seemed to be missing the necessary account. I did not feel great walking out of that exam.

With the CPA exam I've found that your feelings exiting the exam aren't always in line with the results. I walked out of FAR thinking I failed because of the simulations, but I got an 81. I ended up getting a “stronger” rating in every category of multiple choice, and a “weaker” in simulations, so it looked like my strong multiple choice saved me. I left BEC feeling great and got a 92. I left AUD feeling very confused, again, because of the simulations. I was totally unsure of whether I got any of them right because of how vague they were, and I ended up with a 92.

My suggestion at this point would be to do your best to just forget about FAR until you get your results. It's out of your hands and you're not doing yourself any favors by worrying about it, especially if you're jumping right into studying for your next exam.

I took it yesterday and kinda felt the same way. I got through the multiple choice pretty fast, not sure if thats a good thing or not. Had about 2 hours for the sims but they were brutal. I took almost all of those 2 hours and I am sure I messed up on some of them, didnt leave any blank though. From what I have seen/heard, no one knows how these are graded and plenty of people who have thought they failed actually passed. I will do my best not to think about it until the scores are released. Time to start studying the next section anyway :/
