Just took FAR

Just took FAR today. I am disgusted. I didn’t expect to see questions straight from the Wiley book, but I did expect the Wiley book to prepare me, which I felt it didn’t. I felt confident in about 6 chapters and alright in the others. Meaning, if they would have asked me any question for any topic on any of those 6 chapters then I would have got 100%. Would you look at that! Only 1 question from those 6 chapters. How is that even possible?! It’s just a huge waste of time for us to spend days on chapters reading the text, the sims, the MCQ for them to not even test you over it. It’s a joke.

It’s BS for those of you to say if you do enough MCQ from Wiley you will do fine. I did my fair share. My only explanation is I got a poor test. I don’t know how else to explain it.

By the time I got to the sims I had such a sour taste I just said F#@% it and exited. I have zero motivation to attempt this again.

Bro relax. I feel like a big pos too after Monday, but we gotta do this…

I did not expect to see similar questions straight from the review either, but I expected something doable….half of the questions came from IDK where, with details that they pulled out from their ars… My explanation: a bad day, that's all. There will be worse and better days in the future. That's just life and this is just an exam. I don't feel any less than those who have passed on their 1st try. I'm still frustrated, angry, feel stupid, but have AUD coming in April, so I'm starting tomorrow. Good luck bro!

Wait… so you didn't finish the exam?

There are a finite amount of topics in the GAAP and IFRS codifications and they're all covered AT THE VERY LEAST on the top level in most review courses. I don't understand how somebody can come out of the exam and say “omg they don't test you over anything in the book, it's a joke”.

If any of the 4 exams is true to the review material I would put my money on FAR.

CPA DEX I know what you are going through buddy, I gave my exam on the 27th and felt like crap, I studied for 2 months and I am honestly sick of failing again, I have studied by butt off and literally isolated myself from everyone and everything. I took a 2 week study break only for FAR and it royally sucks if I had to fail again. I was looking at some of the questions thinking, what the **** on earth are you asking for? even the chapters that I had absolute confidence in handling got 2 questions in.. i don't know man, im absolutely bummed and dont know what to think anymore, the person looking at my cc camera in the testing centre would have been having a blast, i was banging the key board, pulling my hair.. ohh well atleast I made someone else laugh.. the results are out on the 7th of March right?

    FAR: 79, what im done??
    REG: 75
    AUD: 75
    BEC: 77

    I would rather score four 75's than three 99's and a 74

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. However, you should have never given up! I wanted to leave after MCQ's b/c I didn't think I was doing well and I didn't feel my testlets got harder. I gave the SIMS all I had, but walked out of there 99.9% sure I would be receiving a score of less than 75. Imagine my shock and surprise on score release day! I swear these tests are designed to play mind games with you and I'm sure the AICPA likes it that way. Not only do you have to know the material, you have to be mentally strong to get through 4 hours of non-stop deep thinking. When I walk out of the testing center, I feel like my brain is sparking.

I read on here several times about pounding out MCQ's on FAR, but I totally agree with you that that is not the key to passing for some people. I'm sure it works for others but it wasn't working for me. I spent most of my time reviewing J/E's and formulas, and I bet I did less than 1,000 MCQ's for FAR. Audit is a different story though – MCQ's worked best for me there and I did probably 3,000-4,000 of them.

James, maybe it was an exaggeration to say nothing was tested. A lot of the material looked familiar. For example, I had a question over the fixed asset module that seemed pretty reasonable because I knew everything there was to know about fixed assets. At the end of the problem, it asked for something that I had no idea what it meant. That's an example of how I feel it was a joke. Maybe it was a nongraded question, but I had several of them.

I know not all the exams are the same, and I strongly feel some are harder than others to make you fail so you will take it again and pay more money. I've had several friends say, although the questions were hard, they were familiar with them and knew what they were asking. I couldn't tell what these questions were asking for.
