Well, Just got back from my FAR exam and it seems like it went well. First testlet was shorter questions, the second wordier but not necessaryily harder, same with the third. Sims were pretty straight forward, several topics in each.So does wordier mean increased difficulty? I hope so, I felt good leaving. Now a month of waiting 😀

    AUD (11) & FAR (10) = 89
    BEC (10) & REG (11) = 78

MI-CPA, it sounds like you did a good job. Good luck with your grade. Thanks for posting your experience, I feel more relaxed from posts like yours. I think wordier means more difficult although some people say no. It didn't seem harder because you were well prepared.

I'm fairly new to this board, so I haven't really read too much into past discussions, but I am fairly certain that the tests are all pre-determined questions (as in they don't scale in difficulty depending on how you are doing). The fact you're saying you felt it went well is a good sign, seeing as most people I've talked to that have taken FAR felt like they failed after the exam (yet ended up passing).

I take mine 11/24, doing just Becker, and am pretty worried myself. Will finish the book (reading/lectures/taking notes/homework) the first time around by Sunday, giving me about a week and a half to review. I'm doing OKAY on the homework, but I just feel like when I study one chapter, I forget the prior ones. I am also terrified of the time constraints.

kobe – I did used Becker and felt Becker questions were harder. They seemed like they had a lot longer questions that I would usually zone out reading by the time it got to the actual question. I do think it prepared me well.

cpameplz – you seem to be in good shape. I reviewed all the chapter for 2.5 weeks. MC was my nightly activity.

    Good Luck to all.

Becker is great for FAR. Good luck to all taking FAR on this window

    FAR 88 - BEC 86 - AUD 90 - REG 85

cpameplz – FAR, AUD & REG MCQ testlets get more difficult the better you are doing. I think once you get into the a testlet all the questions are already set. Depending on how you did on the first and second decides if if you get a medium, medium difficult, difficult for second and third testlets respectively.

With Becker utilize the passmaster software and try to make time to do simulated progress tests over all the sections so you don't get rusty on the ones you haven't seen lately.

    FAR - 87
    AUD - 88
    BEC - 88
    REG - waiting

Has that been ever officially announced, though? Or is that purely speculation amongst everyone on the board?

The reason I said I was fairly certain they didn't (scale in difficulty) was because a friend and I both took another test together on the same day. After we had both finished, we talked about how the exam went and what we had trouble on, etc. I mean, we only went through a handful of questions we had trouble on, but we both had every single one we mentioned on our exams. Even the simulations sounded exactly the same. We both ended up passing, but our scores were almost 10 points apart.

So that led me to believe that they were pre-determined, and we just coincidentally got the same version. Only other explanation I can think of is that they do scale, and we got the same ones wrong throughout the test?

I read this back in May when I started the process, but I think it's explained/announced here.

Also, my Becker professor said they don't curve the “exam”, they curve the questions on the exam, if you guys studied together you might have got the same ones wrong or right?

    AUD - 88

Well I would say that is official enough lol, I guess it was all coincidence that we ended up getting the same testlets AND simulations. I guess one just did significantly better than the other in the simulations portion. Thank you for posting that, it cleared up a lot of questions I had.

From that post, it seems like the “curve” is based on the difficulty (getting a difficult question right gives you more points than an easier question).

sorry to report my re-re-retake was a disaster.

not really in the mood right now… i ran out of time and didn't have time for the sims other than WC. so many calcs. i dont' know how you guys do it and still have time left after. like always my mcq were probably 80% calcs. i really don't know what to do at this point. i was counting on the fact that i knew the material… again i feel like giving up. it has cannibalized my life for the last 1.5 years…..

@FARBEHIND – you did what you could do now give yourself time to relax. I don't think anyone ever feels great coming out of the test. You have so much support 🙂 I know how badly you want this to be over with. You have another month before grades are released. Do something fun. Recharge. Enjoy Thanksgiving.

Whenever I feel down about the exam, I remind myself how fortunate I am that I can even take the test. I mean in all aspects – financially, intellectually. You are almost there and to give up now, well, I won't allow it. I'm sure I'm saying all this for nothing and that you are about to be a CPA 🙂

    AUD 95 (3/5/10); BEC 83 (5/28/10); FAR 71, 72, 74, 82 (10/16/10); REG 65,80(11/23/10)
    ALL DONE 🙂

All Becker FAR users with test coming up. There were about 5-6 identical MC questions on the exam I took. Good luck to all.

@cpameplz – it's official it gets harder if you're doing well. Not just speculation.
