Just Took BEC

    Just got back from taking BEC today. I took the exam back in August and score a 70. Had mostly theory questions with only about 20% calculations. I would say this time it was almost 50% calculations. Was definitely surprised. However, for the most part the questions were manageable. I had to flag quite a few just on my first testlet. But as I went back and reviewed them and read them carefully I was able to piece them together. CPAexcel did a good job preparing me for most of them. There were a couple that I did have to straight up guess on though. Hope those were pre-test! I am fairly sure that the testlets got harder as I progressed but not positive (the last time I took them I was sure they got harder).

    Simulations went fairly well. I didn’t prepare too much for them other than being familiar with the material. I ended up finishing with about 5 minutes left to spare. I prepared exclusively with CPAexcel and supplemented with the Wiley online testbank. When I took the exam before there were 3 questions/areas that I got wrong that I made sure to know this time around. During this test I didn’t get one single question on any of these areas. Couldn’t believe it and disappointed because I knew I would nail them. Overall, I feel this test could go either way. I am kind of disappointed as I was hoping I could walk out with full confidence that I nailed it but unsure what to think now. On to AUD!

    @argonaut

    you described the same situation I had. I remember that the second testlet was so hard…calculations on what felt like was every question. I remember getting off my budgeted time because of that, but then made it up on the last testlet since it was easier than the first two. I also studied some areas like crazy that I didn't do well the first time and barely got any questions on it at all. I hate how this process this, it would be great if we could leave the testing center with a better idea of how we did. It does sound like you had a good experience though—I am hoping that you get good news soon!

    best of luck.

    @ yankeeaccountant – Thanks, I'm hoping for good news too. I decided to start studying for Audit immediately to take my mind off the exam. The testlets were fairly difficult compared to the first time I took it. I breezed through the whole exam with 45 minutes to spare. This time I felt myself constantly checking the clock to make sure I didn't run out of time.

    ditto! I finished the exam with literally a couple of minutes left. The first time, I breezed thru also.

    I am sitting for Audit this month, Audit is my arch enemy! I can't wait to get this one behind me. Best of luck to you with Audit.

    Thanks for sharing your experiences.

    How much time do you all budget for each testlet and the written communications?

    @ mocalakatie – Roughly 30 minutes per testlet. The 2nd and 3rd testlet took a little more than that. I took a quick bathroom break after the first 3 testlets. I believe I started the Written Communication portion with about an hour and fifteen minutes to go.

    if your testlets got harder, than you have a good chance to pass. i was so sure that i would fail BEC, but ended up passing with a solid score 😀

    i like how you immediately start studying for AUD, this is a good strategy. 🙂 Good Luck!!
