Just how important is the ancillary material in FAR?

    I’m in the process of studying FAR and keep wondering to myself just how important a lot of this ancillary material is going to be. I know we’re supposed to read it through and have a basic understanding, but I’m wondering if its smarter to conserve my time and spend it on the larger, more important topics instead. Any advice?

    Thanks!

    It is not important at all. I didn't read a single page of it, didn't do a single supplemental question, and made a 93 on my first attempt. Unless you have an ulimited amount of time it is not efficient to even look at. Focus 100% of your study time on doing MC questions. In my opinion there is a huge opportunity cost associated with any other form of studying. For every hour you spending reading, making notes, memorizing flashcards, etc…that is an hour you aren't preparing for the exam.

    I would say just read it thru once and as Tim and Peter say, “what sticks….sticks”.

    Are the MCQ's in the exam similar to the difficulty as the MCQ's in Wiley?

    I, too, keep trying to pack every ounce of information into my brain, but I fear that all of the knit picky things I'm focusing on won't even been tested too heavily.

    This is what makes FAR easier than REG. With FAR, you don't need to know the ancillary material. With REG, you need to know it.

    Thanks guys, that helps. I'm just going to read it through once like Peter says and leave it alone. The ancillary material in FAR is way too tedious and annoying to study in depth.

    @hallitg,

    First of all congratulations for getting 93 on FARE, wow its really impressive…

    I have one question for you….I also feel the same way that doing as many MCQs will help me to retain information and how to solve particular question better. But you mentioned in your post that you didnt do a single supplemental question what does that mean? I mean you just solved the sub section questions and left supplemental questions on becker software that each chapter have?

    Please help me to understand this….as my test is on 22nd oct. and i really want to know that doing mcqs many time will help me or not….am i on right track or not…

    many thanks in advance

    good luck for your studies…

    I apologize for not responding sooner. Yes, for each Becker study unit I ignored the supplemental MC question sets.

    As I said in my last post, I am convinced that doing MC questions is the only way to study UNLESS you have an unlimited amount of time. I suggest you work all the MC sets, mark the ones you get wrong, and then go back and do them over again.

    Good luck on your test
