Hey guys, I just finished up my FAR exam and I was wondering if someone could tell me about their experience. My first testlest was pretty easy, I had no issues with it. My second testlest was harder. I could see a clear difference between the 1st and 2nd. Questions were a bit wordier, more calculation etc. I felt good about the second testlet as well. The third testlest was very challenging. Definitely harder than the first and second testlest. I struggled a little on that one. My simulations was on material I’d seen but it all had twist to it which made them confusing. I struggled on the simulations. My first memo was decent, I think I did a decent job on, the second one I was completely loss and put some BS. The sims were the most challenging part to me with all the twist and I am sure I didnt do too well on them. Do any of you have similar stories and still passed?

I'm not sure if you are a member of Club 75 but Jeff has a book he wrote, that had I not read it I would have never known this: (Of course credit goes to Jeff as this is from his book)::

If you see that questions are becoming wordier that is a good sign of getting a harder teslet.

^^That's not a direct quote, but the gist. So it probably means you did well on the first two testlets which is good!

    Good Luck!

FAR was the first exam I ever took on this CPA journey (November 2009). I was nervous the whole time and I struggled with the entire thing. I did not finish the last simulation and I was in the middle of the written portion when the test timed-out. The test was scheduled in the afternoon so by the end it was nighttime and hence the parking lot was dark. I moved my car to the darkest corner of the lot so that no one would see me sobbing in my car (I was sure that I had failed since I couldn't even finish the test). FAR was also the first exam that I ever passed, with a 77 score. Just goes to show that nothing is a sure thing.

    Good luck!

My strength in graduate school was always financial accounting, but my wife and I had a baby about a week into my FAR studying and about a month before my exam. Poor planning, especially since I was and am a full-time accountant at a CPA firm. I was sleep deprived, it was busy season, and I could barely stay awake when I did study. I only covered about 4 chapters of 9 in Becker. The night before the exam I took a practice test and did not get a 75 or better on anything.

On the day of the test I felt so relaxed because I was certain I would be retaking the exam. I found my testlets were progressively harder, but testlet 2 was rediculous. When testlet 3 got easier and asked me some random super easy questions I was certain I was doing poorly. I wasted oober amounts of time rechecking questions…DUMB. The first sim was ok, but I ran out of time about 1/3 of the way through the second SIM. I decided to just type something on my memo with 3 minutes left and I got maybe a paragraph. As I said earlier, I was certain I was retaking it but still kept hope.

Well, I passed…79. Not my greatest performance, but good enough.

I honestly did not think I passed this exam when I left the Prometrics site. I was so convinced that I would have to take it again that I began ordering additional study material and was getting ready to start all over again. Fortunately, my wife stopped me and told me to take some time off and wait for my exam. I ended up passing. I never felt great leaving the exams, but I passed.

mutiny92 congs on passing FAR. Which parts of the exam did you find difficult? The MCQs, the Sims or the overall exam as a whole?
