Just walked out of REG a couple hours ago, the pity party is still in full swing. Wasn’t sure about 5 or 6 of the multiple choice, got decimated on simulations. It is very, very frustrating to sit through 30ish hours of lecture and not really recognize anything on the sims. I didn’t have any of those nice drop down boxes where at least you can guess if you are unsure, this was all calculation with the exception of the research sim. No need to be anxious about score release on this one. Damn.

I'm sorry about your luck, I definitely feel your pain. I'm taking it tomorrow, any advice that you can legally share?

jsblamer. Hang in there. This exam has a way of surprising folks. Last year on my 4th attempt at BEC, I was convinced that I only got two mutliple choice questions right. It was the exact same question. I felt ok about the writing portion but literally wanted to pick the computer up and throw it. Still somewhat convinced that there was a 73 point curve as I passed with a 75!!

    The pity party is okay.

Yeah, I didn't have any of those nice drop-down boxes either. I keep hoping that I guessed well enough on those calculations. Is that possible? Is this typical for REG?

    AUD - 96 (7/17/12)
    BEC - 92 (8/30/12)

You sound like you did alright in the MCQ section. Five or six isn't that bad at all.

I wouldn't give my hopes up yet. When I took REG I thought I failed because of the SIMs. I knew I did one 100% wrong and I was unsure about how I handled two other SIMs. I passed with room to spare so it's still possible to pass. I'm not guaranteeing it or anything but I'm trying to help you relax a little. I was so depressed when I though I failed and I pretended around everyone that it was no big deal if I failed because I would just retake the exam next quarter.

NIU CPA Review Correspondence is awesome!

I passed all four sections on the first attempt

Thanks everyone for the encouragement; I will keep my hopes up and maybe be pleasantly surprised.

Yeah, I wouldn't be too hard on myself for feeling bad about 5-6 MC. Since that's still way over passing. I took REG yesterday and I probably flagged 5-6 MC per testlet -_-. Sims on REG have a reputation of being ridiculous too, so you never know until you get your score!

I just had the same problem with REG. MCQ went alright, I could tell the second and third testlets were more challenging but nothing surprised me. Then I get to the simulations with about an 1 hour 10 min left and EVERY task was a calculation on something complex and time consuming. I answered the easy parts on each task first then moved to the next one. No drop down boxes to easily pick from. Even the research question took almost 10 minutes to narrow down. Eventually I ran out of time and just put 0's in for stuff that had a chance of being a 0 for an answer.

Is this common? Why are the REG sims so complicated and seemingly impossible to complete in a reasonable time compared to other sections?

Somewhere on here you'll find my review of my REG exam. I almost got up and walked out after the second SIM. I cried my way through the last hour of the test. No lie, I made ‘educated guesses' on at least 30% of the SIMs and I am not even sure I got the research question correct. I ended up with an 82. Granted, I always do extremely well on the MCQs (they are practically carbon copies of Becker's), but I thought for sure there was no way in hell I'd pass. But I did. And yes, the SIMs were absolutely horrible, but with this test, you truly never know. I'm really, REALLY glad I didn't give up and walk out. You have just as good of a chance as I, or anyone. Whenever I feel down after a test, I always say to myself, if others can pass, so can I.

PS, judging from the above (and others') descriptions of the SIMs, we've all probably ended up with the same SIMs. So, we're all in the same boat, which should make you feel better. They can't fail everyone 😉
