Just did FAR, ran out of time on SIMS - Page 3

I’m writing this post to see what others think in regard to my overall feeling on FAR.

I felt good about the 1st testlet, pretty good about the 2nd testlet, the 3rd was a bit of a challenge, but in comparison to my past FAR exams, I would say I felt OK on the 3rd testlet. OVERALL, I felt GOOD on the MCQs. I gave myself an hour for the sims and by the time i got halfway through, I was scrambling through them due to time. They were tough. Only one of the sims did I feel absolutely sure that I knocked it out. The others, I felt like I was just kind of putting as many right answers as I could. I couldn’t even do the research questions.

Has anyone been under the same experience?

    AUD - 64, 75
    BEC - 67, 75
    REG - 33, 58, 76
    FAR - 41, 73, 84
    DONE.

Tip: If you don't feel like you're studying hard, you'll probably fail. Study harder.

I HAD THE EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE. I felt so confident about the multiple choice. I mean, 1st and 2nd testlet I did pretty good. Testlet 3 was a challenge but I felt good that it got harder. I gave myself 50 minutes for the simulations. BIG MISTAKE! I thought the simulations would be similiar to the becker practice exam. Boy, was I wrong. I had to prepare a statement, figure out variances, i had journal entries. I underestimated the simulations. Time just flew by…it got to the point were I didn't solve anything AT ALL, but for example, I wrote the journal entry (even though I didn't solve) or I prepared the financial statement but did not plug in the numbers. I completely ran out of time. And I really felt that was my exam. I really felt like if I had more time I know for a fact I would've passed.

I didn't pass..I got a 72. I hope that I learned my lesson the next time around. Good luck!!!

Do I have a chance? I have been obsessed with reading reaction of people after taking FAR to make myself feel better. I just took mine this morning and still have a headache from it. I felt like the 1st and 3rd testlets were easier than the 2nd one, that probably means I did horrible on the 2nd one. The sims was hard in my opinion, I think I guessed more than I knew. I'm so tired and felt like all of my studying DID NOT prepare me enough. I use Becker, viewed all lectures, did all MCQs twice, all the sims once, I did both final exams, twice! And still think I would be miracle for me to pass. I'm terrified to see the score when it comes out, I truly don't want to see this exam again….

    FAR - 82 (2/6/2012)
    REG - 75 (phew!)(4/16/2012)
    BEC - 77 (5/31/2012)
    AUD - 61 (7/17/2012), WAITING!!! (10/15/2012)

My opinion on trying to time tests.

I had this conversation with my brother the other day. He is a sophomore pre-med student. I've always been a very fast test taker. I was that guy that finished every test twenty minutes before everybody else. To give you an idea, I finished FAR in under 2 hours, and the research question took me over 20 minutes to find the answer.

I have never understand setting a pre-meditated amount of time for each section. Granted, it has never been an issue for me to finish, but what I told my brother is to work as quickly as possible through each test and if you don't have time you don't have time. I think oftentimes, people worry to much about fitting in their time line. I'd say, don't look at the timer. Especially when it comes to MCQ's, if you are prepared, your gut instinct is probably the right answer. If you read the question, read the answers, and have a good gut feeling about one of them. Go with it. Move on. Don't look back.

There is no sense in re-reading and re-reading questions. We're talking about 90 total MCQ's in the FAR exam. It's safe to assume that some of those will require some kind of calculation that will take a minute or two but others can be the simple kind such as “Which inventory valuation method will understate COGS in a time of rising prices?” That question shouldn't take more than 15 seconds.

Don't over-analyze. Trust your gut. It's usually right. If you trust your gut on the MCQ's and just go for it, you won't run out of time… And I'd bet that your chances of passing would go up too.

    LOL. That was pretty good.

FYI, for about an hour or so after you post, there's an “edit” button at the bottom of your post. If you post, then read the post and decide to change it, you can edit it. This feature disappears after a bit. I'm not sure how long.

    AUD - 88
    FAR - 90
    REG - 85
    BEC - 88

@CPA soon: don't you hate the wait? I don't why but I always feel like they have a higher grading curve in the first 2 testing windows. Maybe because new questions are being released. Anyways, yeah, keeping my fingers crossed for you 🙂 I used Becker as well. I felt like Becker did a good job, but since I'm retaking it again I feel like I need to look at different questions so I'm purchasing the Wiley Online Test Bank and working on my time management. And this time I know if I don't have time to fill in my answers then to put zero (don't leave them blank)! I take FAR again April 6th…ugh! I dread the day 🙁
