I have heard if you got through Far, it can help you in all 3 sections of CPA exam. I was wondering if you pass all other 3 sections, will it help in getting prepared for FAR. I am so so so scared of FAR. Did not touch Financial accounting since I left school about 6 years ago. I worked in tax but no experience in accounting. Is any hope to get passed with bad accounting background. Please help. Any suggestion will be helpful.

Ofcourse, there's hope! You just gotta put work in it, that's it:!)

So many people on this forum have been out of school for a long time, yet have managed to pass!!

    Good Luck!

@Sabrina — I did take and pass FAR first, however, I don't feel like it necessarily increased my readiness for other sections. Just my take. Good luck!

In my limited observation so far, I think that there's some light overlap in all sections, but it's mostly vocabulary and basic concepts — not mechanics. And since most of the questions on the exam deal more in the mechanics, I wouldn't count on any one section giving you a greater advantage in subsequent sections that you take. You almost have to approach it like 4 entirely separate exams. That's my take, anyway.

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 88
    REG - 87
    FAR - 86 - Woot, all done!
    Ethics - 100

I passed FAR first and lost it because it took forever to pass BEC and REG. I don't think there is a “perfect order” to sitting for these exams. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. I did think that studying for REG and FAR at the same time was helpful, but confusing at times. I have a much better grasp on property basis because of it, but it's easy to get the owners basis in a partnership and their tax basis in that partnership confused. I don't think FAR would be helpful in passing BEC at all simply because BEC is mostly managerial accounting with no GAAP. Good Luck!

Like BaseballCPA said, the overlap is very minimal and it won't help you much. If anything, you'll see the overlapping terms in REG and BEC. AUD and FAR overlap a little on financial statements, but it really isn't going to help too much.
