    Hey all,

Im quickly approaching my FAR test (Aug 29) and am starting to feel the fire under me. I have been told a couple times that it is impossible to know absolutely everything that is covered in final exam review products for FAR. Is this correct and does anyone have any input on this? I am using becker btw. Any guidance on what to do in the weeks leading up to my exam is greatly appreciated. This is my first time battling FAR and it is a beast!

Be familiar w/ everything, at least at the basic layer. If you can answer the “easy” questions for most subjects w/ consistency, you'll probably be alright.

It's impossible to know EVERYTHING super in-depth, but you should at least know the basics for everything.

You can't know everything and there will, of course, be questions that you see that you don't know what the answer is…but, you like snb said, the more you know the better! If you know *something* about a topic, you can do a better job guessing at the details.

I try to think, in prep, that I can know everything (so that I work hard to get as close as possible), and then think in the exam you can't know everything, so that I don't freak out when I see something unfamiliar.

I would say to some extent, though, this applies to all the exams. You can't know everything…but the more you know, the better off you are. And in that same thought-process, it's *understanding* more than *knowing* that really matters. Like, you can know that 3+4=7, but if you understand why (3 fingers on one hand and 4 on another count up to 7), then you can figure out more about something similar (like 2 + 4). If you understand all the concepts at least in part, you'll be far better off than someone who memorized every word of their review materials (and I have no idea how someone could memorize it all to start with…).

overall, I felt that Becker did a good job of preparing me for far. My biggest tip is: while cranking out the MCQ, ask yourself, what would the journal entry for this transaction be? Many mcq's only ask for a single number, so take time to try and understand each side of the transaction (Debit/Credit) or what the J/E would be for the mirroring party. It might have been overkill, but I looked up many J/E's in my intermediate accounting book from school.

I would also suggest re-reading the chapters if time permits. maybe just half a chapter a day if that's all you can do. You will def get a few questions that are just a single line in the book.

I walked out thinking I was on the boarder of passing, just a heads up.

@Elisabeth that is a great way to put it!!!!! I love your explanations and PS congrats on passing FAR!

@GoHawks I'm right there with you on journalizing every MCQ that it is appropriate to do so for! I think that nailing journal entries is the key to passing FAR, especially the dreaded SIMS.

It's important to have something in your arsenal for every topic on the outline…sucks but there's no other way around it. Retaining all the info is what makes FAR so challenging!!!! Good luck on the 29th!!!!!!!!

How do they always know to ask the ONE little thing I don't know instead of the 15 I do know about any given topic??? Ugh…

@MintsRGood Yes I highly recommend doing that! Journal entries were a huge component of the simulations, at least for me. I know some people who got only a couple with them. I was not that fortunate however πŸ™‚

I know what I did in the coming days was lots of progress tests and lots of reading. I failed my first exam I ever took because I didnt read and take notes enough. Because I read/skimmed most of the book in the few days before the exam, I was able to answer a couple of random conceptually questions that I remembered reading just the day or two before on the actual exam. It definitely paid off! Also, dont ignore what you are having trouble with. I went back to some chapters 3+ time to read and redo questions. Just try your best. I wasnt doing great, probably mid to high 70s on progress tests tops. Ended up with a 79. Have faith in yourself, you can do it!

I skipped the last 3 chapters of Becker (Gov/Non-Profit, Etc) almost completely and still ended up with an 84.

Knowing everything is impossible, just do you best in the time you have.

    FAR: 84 on 4/4/13
    AUD: 91 on 7/27/13
    BEC: 72 on 11/11/13, 82 on 01/03/14
    REG: 80 on 02/27/14
