So I am taking far at the end of the month (Aug. 29) I am using becker and there are 10 chapters. I wanted to see if this plan sounded good to anyone who has conquered FAR or is in the middle of studying for it.

I have been through each chapters 1-7 so far, leaving me with 8,9, and 10. those chapters are on governmental, NFP, and other miscellaneous topics. My plan is as follows…

spend two days on each section 1-7 starting tomorrow (the 8th). This will bring me to august 22. I wanted to go over chapters 1-7 again because I feel like I need to do that to be confident and I want to give myself enough time master the materials in that chapter and do MCQ’s and sims. However, that leaves me with the final 5 days to nail down the gov’t and nfp because I want to take the day off before my test.

Does this sound like a good plan to you all? I don’t start my job yet so I can study for a long time during the day. Sorry for the rambling. Thanks!

I spent a lot of time on sections 1-7 in FAR and blew through non-profit and governmental just before my test. Turns out, non-profit and governmental had tons of MCQs and made up about 15 or 20% of my test. Also, section 10 in the Becker book covers all sorts of random things that don't fit in the other sections so give yourself time for random topics.

I would recommend finishing sections 8-10 and reviewing all the chapters at the end. The practice tests that cover all the sections at once are very helpful so that you are accustomed to seeing all the topics mixed.

Governmental and Not for Profit are heavily weighted and can be up to 20% of your score. Of the five content areas on the score report Governmental is one and Non profit is another. It is a mistake to try to skim past those areas. As Jeff says … You don't have to be an expert but try to absorb as much as you can in these areas. Good luck to you on August 29!

I personally think you should try to get through everything and then go back through and review everything..I know that works for me! I didn't absorb much if any my first time through so I focused on getting through it all the first time and really buckling down for the second time through. Like everyone is saying here, govt and NFP are heavily tested. The questions werent too bad from these sections so if you cant get a decent feel for it I think you will be in good shape…I wouldn't wait until a few days before your exam though to see it for the first time. Either you get it or you don't…you may need to devote more time than you think to it!

ok, I am going to take all of your advice and finish 8,9, and 10 and then review everything rather than going back through it now. Thanks for all of your imput!

@cchiz1958, I am in the same situation you were in. I don't think im retaining everything well enough the first time through. Do you think 2 weeks is enough to go back through everything again and try to get a better hold of everything? How long did you give yourself to go back through for a second time?

I personally had about 3 weeks but I think you could do it in 2 if you are really dedicated. It really depends how you learn best. If reading helps you alot, it will be harder to do it in 2 but if you learn more from questions and can skim the reading 2 should be enough. A suggestion I will make is start keeping up with progress tests after you review chapter 2 and so on. I didnt have time to do them first run through, so I really buckled down and kept up with those during review. I would do sets of 30 questions. Try and do at least 1 if not more of those progress tests a day to keep what you reviewed fresh. And dont worry about your scores…I honestly didnt do better than a 75 on the majority of the questions, except for governmental that was my strong point. Towards the end I was averaging in the 70s, and I got a 79. Just stick with it and work hard!
